Gas Cap Cover

Ok I went to fill up my tank today. After I filled it up I screwed on the gas cap and closed the cover. It wouldn't close!!! I took a look and there seems to be a clip missing on the car next to the gas cap. I looked around and nothing had fallen off. I never paid attention to how the clip looks like so I dunno what to do. Is there a simple fix to this or will I have to go in and hook some stuff up so the lever by the driver's seat unlocks the cover door. What parts would I need is it simple enough to do it by myself?

Re: Gas Cap Cover

In the first picture you posted, there's a hole to the right of the cap where the mechanism that catches and releases the door should be.

It either broke off and fell away while you were still in the car pulling the cover release, or actually got pulled into the car.

It's too dark to take a picture of mine right now. I'll take a better look at it tomorrow.

Re: Gas Cap Cover

Hmm I've had that same problem ever since my second hit and run happened on mine. Hopefully we can get this figured out.

Re: Gas Cap Cover

Yo sup my man the clip fell inwards no way it could have fell out look in your trunk remove the carpet and you'll see the mechanism its attached to a cable that leads to the gas cap lever. Find it and put it back on, goes on like a head light bulb push it in and turn it.by the way the mechanism that opens it is the size of a thumb so it's nothing small. It will probably fall out again so use superglue or something stronger to hold the mechanism from falling back in. It will make sense once you see it.

Re: Gas Cap Cover

i'll have to rep for such an answer as well. i was actually thinking the same thing about fitting like a bulb when i saw the empty hole on his car, and was trying to feel around the same area on my car a little while ago. lol.

i broke my flashlight and wasn't about to use a lighter to see what i was doing.

although, thinking back on it, i think the idea of it "being too dark out to take a picture" was only a little less retarded than using a lighter in said manner.

good grief...

Re: Gas Cap Cover

By the way remove ur trunk carpet only on the side where the gas cap is on no need to take it all out. Just in case it wasn't obvious

yea i figured it out after i took the pics. I need a new clip to hook it back on to the hole. It sucks thought. I think Honda is probably gonna charge me for the whole cable even though all i need is the clip. I think I'm gonna go take a look in some junk yards. There are rarely any preludes in junk yards. Does anyone know if I can strip the part off another Honda?

Re: Gas Cap Cover

Any cable from whatever car will do as long as it's long enough for it to reach. the cable comes with the trunk cable already attached to it

I don't need the cable just the mounting piece. the plastic part at the very end that clips onto the open hole. can I take it off another Honda around roughly the same year? i'll take a pic of the piece later when i have some time.

Re: Gas Cap Cover

the clip is attached to the mechanism which attached to the cable so pretty much one piece.

Re: Gas Cap Cover

Hey! *UPDATE* I figured it out! I got it fixed. I stripped the parts from a Civic. Only Civic. Accord's parts won't work. I replaced it w/o replacing the entire cable. If you need help lemme know
