Weird stuff happened after my mechanic changed t.belt, HELP!

I had my mechanic change the t.belt and water p. this past friday.

When I get the car back both the check engine light and att light is on. I told him I never seen that **** on before. He said bring it tomorrow(today, Sat) and I'll check.
I took that **** around the block and it didn't drive right AT ALL. 2nd gear had NO power. So I bring it right back and he says he'll look at it today. So he tells me the tensioner belt jumped off b/c I need a new tensioner. ok w/e, so I buy a new one and he installs it. Tells me a wire that didn't get plugged in caused the check engine and att. Ok?

So now I've got it back and has power but it makes this weird high pitched spooling sound. Only when I press the gas from the pedal even in neutral. If I rev it from the throttle body I don't hear the sound. Also but maybe it's me, it seems like the gears peak out a lot sooner than they used to? Like I said maybe it's me.

So can an improperly installed balancer belt make that spooling sound? and can it cause the car to feel less powerful? Any thoughts?

IMO i think because you had a bad incident already your mentality is that the mechanic messed something up again. The belt being to tight could cause a super charger wine.

IMO get rid of the auto tensioner, and convert to manual less worries for future

I do have a manual transmission. Yea that's exactly what it sounds like...a supercharger. That's not gonna mess anything up or make the belt wear out sooner is it?

I have places I can go for free or extremely cheap work. When they can't do something themselves I take it somewhere else but have one of the the freebie guys look the car over before hand so I don't flip on another mechanic because I'm too quick to get angry over my car.

I misunderstood, I don't have a manual tensioner. Well if my car is not of danger of messing up with the way it is then I'll see what's up with getting that done next time I need to change my t.belt.

If your tensioner went bad you could be dealing with some serious problems. That sort of thing could definitely throw the timing (even with a new T-belt) and that is not good. I'd pay real close attention to how it drives for a while.

It drove FINE until this guy touched it. When I first got it back he said the belt jumped off because the tensioner went bad. I'm thinking it was fine when I got it to you, how can the tensioner just go bad overnight?

Anyways I got the new one so I don't know. If I take it to another mechanic do you think they'd be able to tell if there's a more serious issue?

I mean can a tensioner go bad just cause you put a new belt in it? I had ZERO problems with the way the car was running before. I was just doing my routine maintainence.

Re: Weird stuff happened after my mechanic changed t.belt, HELP!

you have an H23 correct? (i'm assuming so since it looks like you have an SE in your avatar)

if you do have an H23, then you have a manual tensioner.

sounds like your mechanic doesn't know what he's doing, i'd go somewhere else.

yes some mechanics suck... especially when they dont know the car they are working on and how to fix it correctly.

I'm gonna take it back tomorrow morning and I guarantee he's going to give me some **** and push it off with some b.s. excuse. If I can't get it resolved then I'll call you up and hopefully you can check it out for me next weekend if you got time. Thanks, I'll keep in touch.
