Icon5 Switching from Premium gas to Regular.

Safe, smart, or just straight stupid?
I've only had my lude for about 2 weeks now.
But i tried switching tha gas from premium to regular.
And now tha check engine light is on and tha dripping
oil symbol is constantly flashing.

Should i just switch back to premium gas, and reset tha battery.
Or will tha lude adapt to its new fuel?

Re: Switching from Premium gas to Regular.

WEll not to sound mean or anything but Honda says to use premium. They didn't do that because it makes them more money it's because of the compression(i think, could be wrong) but either way USE PREMIUM!

Re: Switching from Premium gas to Regular.

dripping oil symbol??? you mean the low oil pressure light? check your oil level. take your lude to an auto parts store and tell them to run the CEL diagnostic thing-a-majig on your lude and it will tell you whats wrong with it.

if this is true about the octane level of premium at that time, then it kind of tears at the points some people were making. so whats the deal?

Re: Switching from Premium gas to Regular.

What they rate premium at in the past dosen't mean it will be the same now! And if I remeber correctly my owners manual refers to premium as 91 or higher. I always use 93 if available and try to stay away from the cheapo gas stations! Honda recommeneds premium on certain motors unfortanetly the h series is one! And now I usually put premium in my teg(b16 motor) out of force of habit!

I thought 87 was unleaded, at least it is here in Indiana, I know it's different in states...

This is a grey area, as some say yes it will, and others say it won't because the engine's computer has a knock sensor and will retard all timing to avoid detonation before it becomes catastrophic. Personally I come from the second school of thought.

If you look in the manual, it says Premium, then specifies 91 from memory.

Now before I lock this thread, I will say the same thing I say in every other thread ever created on this subject:

You bought a sports car that has a high performance engine. If you can't afford to pay the extra for the better fuel then sell it and buy somthing else.
