COLD AIR INTAKE

just bought a 99 prelude, and I was considering to install a COLD AIR INTAKE, if I do this, would this cause stress on my engine? Please advise!

No, you'll be fine. Just avoid standing water.

Re: COLD AIR INTAKE

The cold air intake itself will not do any damage to the motor, but if you live in an area that floods alot or that has a lot of places that deep puddles like to accumulate than a better bet would be a stock type-s intake or a SRI.

If you install the water valve though the loss in flow completely negates any advantage you might have possibly gained from the change in intake.

Re: COLD AIR INTAKE

i got a cold air intake, people tell me its a waste to get a bypass and others say get one but i wont get a bypass valve for a few reasons, but heres one. The say it negates the purpose of having a CAI because it wont be cold air if your filter gets clogged with water itll just prevent hydrolock. Chances of hydrolock are slim unless u live in an area that floods or u drive into a lake, i have to have my car submerged halfway up the door panel to completely flood my filter an thats pretty deep, on my CAI it also says something like do not drive with this filter in water more than 16 inchs or sumthing, thats over a foot. u might get 1 or 2 extra ponys with a CAI compared to a short ram which u might get 1 or 2 as well. but they both do justly the same just ones on the bottom the others on the top and ones colder obviously. basically u can run a hose on the filter and it wont suck up water, it must be completely submerged and whatever part isnt wet will take the air from where its dry. plus if u spend anywhere from 20 to 60 on a bypass valve its like they are ripping u off for only ten dollars worth of materials. good luck dude, if ur anal about it get a short ram, ebay 30 bucks and thats the only good thing from ebay anyway.

I just wanted to touch on this part here ...

I cannot personally say one way or the other, but from what I've heard, the bypass actually negates having a CAI in general. The bypass actually sits under your hood near the block, and it actually sucks up air whether your filter is sitting in water or not. I personally would go with a Type S intake. It has proven gains, you don't have to worry about hydrolocking, or any bypass filters, and if you won't need a sticker or carb exempt panel for it.

you dont have to worry about snow it wont suck that **** up, snow is more of a solidified type of moisture, even though its not solid if that makes any sense.

yea and your putting the bypass valve in between the filer and the intake manifold, you can technically put it anywhere in between, but they say put it in the middle. i would just say dont be bothered with worrying get a short ram.
