im trying to get my buddies car runnin and his battery is dead. i hooked up the jumper cables and the horn started going off, so i disconnected it. hooked the cables up again and nothing. no power to anything. no bells, buzzers or whistles. im sure its a fuze or relay, but have no idea. i have never encountered anything like this so i dont know where to start.

Re: anyone ever heard of this

Hork honked? Sounds like a car alarm has been installed.

Yeah if you disconnected the horn (which sounds to be connected to the car alarm), it might have just shut all power to the car off. Car alarms can do that ya know.

Re: anyone ever heard of this

I would say call the people that installed the alarm to see if it did trigger something and how to reset it. I don't think it would be a fuse, but you never know. Check your fuses and take the battery down to Auto Zone to have it tested. Once you've done that post back here.

Re: anyone ever heard of this

my moms accord does this every time the battery dies and we hook it up to a charger...just connect your power/jumpers, put the key in the ignition and turn it on...im pretty sure thats what fixes it for us

Re: anyone ever heard of this

I'm thinking the battery is just dead, that's why I suggested taking it to auto zone.

Re: anyone ever heard of this

if this is alarm related than hook the horn back up, attach jumper cables, more than likely the alarm will sound again, while it's sounding you can use the remote from your alarm to disarm it. most alarms will automatically sound once the cables are attached to the battery. you can also try taping the hood pin down while you do this (as long as all doors are closed and trunk is closed) and the alarm should not sound.

if it is not due to an alarm related issue you may wanna check your ground connections

good luck

Check the fuse. Maybe there's a car alarm installed. Better check on it!

Re: anyone ever heard of this

It sounds like there is an alarm. When you say nothing happens when you hooked it back up do you mean no headlights, radio, wipers, nothing? Or will it just not start? Ususally alarms have starter kill meaning once the alarm goes off it uses a relay to "open" the starter wire making it not start. Look for a small button under the dash. If you find one , hook up the charger so the alarm goes off. Press and hold the button while you put the key in the ignition and turn it to ON. Should turn off the alarm. Now, if you have nothing check your main fuse. Did you possibly hook the carger up backwards? It happens. You will need to replace EVERY fuse and hope nothing went tango uniform.

Re: anyone ever heard of this

ya even if the battery is dead when you hook up power to said car from another car it dosent matter if his bat is dead you now have full power.
like they said if your not getting any chimes lights anything then something is stoping power from traveling.
something kinda like this happened to my friends sis.
ended up being a loss of ground to the alarm system
