personally i would rebuild the whole head, get some new piston rings and rod bearings and a full gasket kit. just my .02 cents.

Re: old engine, what do you think?

If it's an h22 then it was swapped in or ya could have the h23. Look hear to find out what you have.

Now b/4 you just go throwing money at the engine. How does it run, burn oil and stuff liek that. Only thing i would say replace would be timing belt and water pump and that is if you have no idea how long it been b/4 they wear changed.

Re: old engine, what do you think?

If it aint broke, dont fix it. Just take it easy on the motor. try not to beat on it if it feels like it tired. Just save up for a JDM h22 swap, and when your ready romp on it till there is no more, and swap it out.

Re: old engine, what do you think?

can you give us more info on the oil leak? there are some guys here who can help you pinpoint it... I know when my h23 oil cooler gasket went it was dumping oil like mad... even with my leaks pretty much fixed I burned a quart of 20w50 every 1000 miles, so I went with a JDM h22a... the h22s have some similar oil leaks... you may consider a swap with all those miles regardless... but in some circumstances I suppose a rebuild would be justified... good luck, and welcome.

Re: old engine, what do you think?

altho that is ALOTTAAA miles, do a compression and leakdown test which will tell you the condition of your piston rings, valve seals, and headgasket, as well as the overall condition of the motor. if everything checks out good, then i wouldn't worry about it.

He said it's a VTEC, so we know it's an H22.

With that mileage, personally, if I could afford it, I'd just do a rebuild with all new seals, gaskets, o-rings, etc. and get a basic valve job done and hone the cylinders, the swap a new t-belt and water pump.

Looks like Tim has a new goal to reach in his Lude before he does anything with the motor.

Re: old engine, what do you think?

If H22's make it to 350k miles, I'm going to have mine for at least another 15 years. That should make affording my 3-series pretty easy though, given the time to save up for it.
