Restore/Rebuild

I currently have a 91 prelude and was curious if anyone on this messageboard has done an extensive restore/rebuild to a 4th gen?

The car has spent the majority of its life in Ohio and has a good amount of rust to deal with, some body work (paint, a few dents), interior needs to be redone (cloth has faded), and the engine has a few hiccups (emission system causing the CEL to come on).

I really like the car but if it's going to cost me over 6k I'm hesitant about this project.

Any suggestions or feedback is greatly appreciated.

Re: Restore/Rebuild

Yeah sorry about that, it was a mistype. It's a 92 4th gen.

I will upload some photos when I get home. I google searched some engine swaps as well because I have the auto trans right now and am looking at swapping for the vtec h22.

Re: Restore/Rebuild

Good choice.

Are you planning on doing any of the work yourself? motor swap, body work, or interior work? It'll kind of help us guesstimate on the time and money you'll put into the build ...

Re: Restore/Rebuild

I'm somewhat mechnically inclined. I've done some work on motorcycle engines and body work on them as well. I want to save money on labor when I can but some things will need to be done by professionals because I don't have the necessary tools or working area (engine swap for example).

I have confidence in my skills and learning ability so I will search the internet for as much information as I can.

I want to do a motor swap, body work, and change the interior haha. I will do the work myself when my knowledge base allows me to.

Re: Restore/Rebuild

I'm in a little over $7,000 (right down to the bushings...); I have not done cosmetic fixes/paint yet... My interior is acceptable though... I did pull the carpet and duct tape the wires etc... (it leaked and mildewed some at one point...)

My project is linked in my sig... this is the addy...

For 6k you could buy a new 4th gen or even a 5th gen

Re: Restore/Rebuild

^If you have the platform it's kinda nice to get one fixed up and really know the car inside and out... all depends on how bad it is and the time/money you are willing to spend. There are good reasons for doing both depending on the circumstances.

Re: Restore/Rebuild

I recommend you just do interior work yourself then. Motor swaps arent the easiest thing to do if your new at cars. Also, body work takes a lot of prepping and know how.

Yea but the 1991 body style is not the body style he is talking about. 1992 starts the 4th gen category you smart ass and yes I know all cars come out the year before. I was a car salesman

Re: Restore/Rebuild

In JDM land, the 91 IS a 4th gen model.
