acceleration problem

i don't really know how to explain it, but this only happens sometimes when i start the car, even if it's already warmed up and i start it.
i'd be in 1st gear with the car moving a littlebit, and around 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 my car would lag, like it won't pull. even if i floor it, it won't pull, and i'd hear some brmbrmbrm sound, with my rpm still at 1 1/2 or 2. anyone know what it is?

i asked my friend and he told me but i forgot, something about a tbs? something around the throttle area.

Re: acceleration problem

TPS = Throttle position sensor.

posting specs of your car will give you more, and accurate responses.

Re: acceleration problem

it doesn't sound like your tps. its sounds like more of a fuel problem. fuel filter maybe...? do you have a check engine light on? what dose your car have, cai, header, exhaust, ect?

Re: acceleration problem

When you floor it, if the RPMs still go up but you dont get any acceleration or pull as you put it, I would say its your clutch slipping. So you would need a new clutch. I could be wrong but thats what happened to me and getting a new clutch fixed it.

Re: acceleration problem

By specs he meant any modifications engine wise like the previously stated i/h/e, but you said no. What year is your car? What model? S, SI, Vtec?

Re: acceleration problem

it's a 1995 prelude vtec. well, this problem happens only sometimes. my friend is in college, i think uti, and he told me that it's likely to be the tps. but i don't know what to do if i order a new tps, he said there would be a special tool i need to remove it, and i don't know much, i mean i had alot of trouble installing the front headlights.. my front bumper's loose now because of it.. but yeah, so what do you guys think i should do..

Re: acceleration problem

since you and your friend are really sure that its your tps sensor this is how you replace it. this is you tsp sensor:

disconnected it from its harness
to remove it, remove these two bolts :

. buy a new one from a auto parts store.
put the new one back in and see if the problem is solved

Re: acceleration problem

You should always replace fuses with the one's that are specified by the manufacturer. If you're popping fuses it means you did something wrong.

Re: acceleration problem

back to ur acceleration prob. its most likely ur tps sensor i did a h22a swap in my prelude and when i hooked everything up like a dumby i put the tps wire in the egr valve and the egr valve wire in the tps. and my car would run for a minute then bog down and not go ANYWHERE even if i floored it. took me forever to figure it out but the two plugs are exactly the same just with different color wires. so if your car is running good sometimes and then outta no where just dying and not going anywhere id shoot for tps sensor.its not too hard to replace just kinda hard to get your hands back there i think i took my throttle body off when i did mine. good luck
