Re: Struts and Butts

I installed a set of Tokico Illuminas on our Protege5 a few years ago. We've been plesantly surprised by them. They turned out to be a nice shock for a pretty good price (IIRC, less than $400). I'd spend a little more for the Illuminas so you can have some damping adjustability. I've been thinking about getting them for the wife's Miata as well...

I'm not sure how the damping characteristics of the Illuminas comare to the HPs, but I would assume the HP is a quaility shock as well (might be a bit too soft though, but I can't say for sure).

Re: Struts and Butts

I have heard a lot of people like the kyb agxes better and for a similar price they can be had... I have agxes and like them a lot... I haven't ridden on illuminas or HPs, so I cannot compare them... hopefully someone who has them will chime in...

...if you have the money, spring for koni yellows...

.... oh, agxes are adjustable (4-way)... and as said above, the tokico HPs are not and they may be a little soft...

Re: Struts and Butts

I'm glad others like the picture up there :) :beerchug:
depends on how low the car is too. I have a set of tokico blues for the rear of my car, but haven't gotten around to putting it in yet. I have a set of skunk2 springs on my car, and the worst idea i've ever had was putting them things on the stock shocks. The drop is more than 2 inches, and possibly 3" in the rear. I have no kind of gap on the rear. But in the front its about a 1 finger gap. I wish I would've gotten coil overs

I don't expect these blues to be too stiff. But its probably better than what's there now.
Plus the car squats now when i accelerate, which I think is a cause for 1st gear wheel spins.
