different day, different problem...WTF

So today I swapped out Valve covers, and used a timing light to set my timing on my 97jdm h22 swap(OBD1) so I just loosened the dizzy bolts and set the timing, and the idle was perfect. Then I went to drive it and it acted like it was struggling for gas, especially in the higher/vtec rpm range. So I pulled over and advanced the timing bak to where it was and it doesnt do it as much but it still has a little lag in the lower RPM... I swear all I did was slide the dizzy and swap out valve covers, WTF coulda happend??
