Header Issue

I decided to take a crack at replacing my header and exhaust today. It turned out more troublesome than I thought. Apparently, where the header attaches to the down pipe is a bracket that holds it to the block. I was wondering if anyone had any tips for this one. Im probably gonna go back out at 8 to try again. SO any help is greatly appreciated.

PB-blaster. soak every single bolt/nut with it, and let it sit for a coupla hours to work its magic.

Re: Header Issue

Torque bar??...I don't have air tools, so I usually have to muscle it. But soak it like Nick said so you don't break a bolt and have more problems.

The funny thing about your post is that you beat me to it. I was going to say screw wd-40 (not that I dont have 30 cans of that lying around because it does work...) but PB blaster is definitely the stuff you want to go with. When I did the exhaust on my 87 cutlass (and it was stock) I hit the nuts with PB blaster 3 times over a 5 hour period. It works wonders my friend.

Re: Header Issue

whoa, whoa my friend. did you let the bolts soak in the pb blaster? if you dont do that then the major effects of the stuff dont have time to take place. just be patient young grasshopper.

Re: Header Issue

Well it worked out. I finally finished it, at about the 15 hour mark or so. But i had to cut my o2 sensors, i went under there and soldered them and taped them up but now I seem to have a check engine light on, what gives. Anything else this could be, could it be normal and just need time to adjust.

I should also note that I did my whole cat back too.

Re: Header Issue

Yeah, everything will be fine. I'll get my high flow cat welded on and have the o2 sensor fixed while hes down there. But on the upside my header and exhaust looks sweet as ****.

Don't think I won't show off my hours of hard labor. I'm just to lazy to download them right now, soon though, perhaps tonight, I'll get them pictures because it's so sweet.
