Stroker kit?

I was looking around for pistons to put in the h22a block im going to build. I came across the buddy club stroker kit for the h22a. It comes with everything. (cams,Crank,Rods,pistons,etc...) Any one got anything good or bad to say about these kits?

Got a link?

Crower is the only stroker kit for H22's that I'm aware of.

Re: Stroker kit?

This is the plan. Im getting a h22a from the junk yard. I m going to keep it at work and strip it down a get it all cleaned up. I wanna build a strong running N/A motor. I would like to have the bulk of my power in the mid to upper power band. I want this thing to be bullet proof. Is it wirth stokeing it for the hp gain?

Re: Stroker kit?

how many of you have actually ponied up the $6000 to stroke an h22? I have Brian Crower 2.49L stroker, 10.5:1 compression, Forged pistons stock porting on the head barely needed polishing, 2.5" catback, high flow cat, tri-y header, MSD coil, High energy plug wires, K+N CAI. No forced induction, but the car screams. Amazing mid to high end torque...any questions??

Re: Stroker kit?

Seems pretty bulletproof to me, everything internally is stronger than stock with upgraded rings, more power more torque. I have not had it dynoed yet, but there is a noticable power difference. i think the people that shat on the kit didnt want to spend the money, id like to hear from somebody that actually spent the cash and has anything negative to say. Plan on spending serious cash to do this upgrade, and you will be happy!!

The thing about reliability is that your motor was already built to mathmatic specifications that would give long life to the rods and pistons. When you begin to tinker with stroker kits, although they are good for more power, they change that rod length which could severely affect piston speed and make a piston that travels too fast or not fast enough. Also, the angle at which the rod has to move to travel up and down while connected to the crankshaft can also affect how much pressure is put on the cylinder walls and piston rings. This could lead to abnormal wear or faster wear on both components.

So you might be able to have your cake, but you might not get to eat it too, if that makes sense.

dont you think adding boost to an engine that wasn't designed for a turbo doesn't add strain?

Re: Stroker kit?

Depends on how you go about it.

The simple answer is "yes"

But the more complicated answer is, if you take the following steps to bulletproofing your engine, then you will probably enjoy years of success.

1. Sleeving the engine block with iron or steel sleeves
2. Decking or semi-decking the block to hold higher pressures
3. Investing in pistons and rods that are forged to the strength that a turbo engine's normally are
4. Ensure you stock ignition system is either upgraded or properly maintained.
5. Ensure your oiling system is properly maintained or upgraded.

Then there are a whole lot of other factors in the components of a turbo system that you'll need to be sure you upgrade, like your fuel system, exhaust system, transmission and axles (to handle extra power), the turbo itself and the cooling system.

Then for the most part, you'll have good reliability for years. But those that want to turbocharge the stock engine, that's when the seams start to come apart.
