Gas Mileage

Just wondering what kind of gas mileage some of you are getting......I'm getting consistently 22 highway/city driving. Now, the reason why I'm asking, is someone on here claimed via PM, that he got 45mpg on his, then changed it to like 43mpg I think he said, and so I pretty much rung up the BullS&*T flag on that one. Then again.....maybe it's possible with a prelude, I honestly don't know. I find it hard to believe since the Government says his car gets like 21/25 but who knows, maybe he really is seeing that. I doubt it. Prove me wrong Jr.

Anyway, what kind of mileage are some of you getting?

Thanks.

Re: Gas Mileage

43mpg is a bit of a stretch... even with a smaller motor...
I have an H22 in my 4th gen and if I cruise at 75,80 on the freeway I can get 31 mpg out of it. If i take it to the canyons or step on it, that number drops to 22-23 at best....
Maybe with an F series? or B series motor?

My average mileage city/highway btw is 23

Re: Gas Mileage

Im getting around 25mpg with my h23. I always fill up when I get to 350 miles. Every time I fill up it takes about 13-14 gallons. The tank is 15.9 gallons so if I let it run dry Id be able to go 400 miles or so. When I do around 80 on the highway the mileage is significantly better, but I dont know by how much. Lately Im really light on the gas but if I drove like I used to Id be getting 19-22 mpg

Re: Gas Mileage

I don't know what engine I have exactly in code, but I do have a 95 SI. I think they call it the H23? Non-Vtec engine I know that....I think.....lol I don't know Hondas that well, I know Mustangs :-)

I took a road trip years ago when I was active duty from D.C. to Illinois in a stock 96' Mustang and averaged 24 highway. I don't know how though, but I did......is there a way to swap the gears to get better mileage on the Lude or should I honestly get my foot out of it? lol The car is a lot of fun to drive, that's why I ask! :-D

23........23......I had a Corolla that got 38 consistently, it was a 93' too......Humm.......I'm at work right now waiting for my patient to come in the room so we can start their procedure :-)

Faulty O2 sensors FTW B! I'm getting about 26-27 mpg, a little less in the winter since I let my car warm up before I drive it.

Re: Gas Mileage

Here, check this out, this is a copy of a PM me and this guy had back and forth and tell me what you guys think:

He told me he got 45mpg.....

Me:

"45mpg? lol What? You're going to have to write how that one is possible down so I can print it off and give it to my Master Mechanic so he can laugh. ::READ THIS:: Not Possible! Well maybe..........if you coast down hills a lot sure, or you turn your car off all the time and do the hypermilling or however you spell it. There is no way a stock for stock Prelude could do that........I bet even if you chipped it, exhaust, and intake, you'd barely be hitting the 30mpg if that! More like 27! lol I mean, I know you're going to say that I don't know anything about preludes or what ever, but aren't these things getting like 20/24mpg from the factory?

http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/noframes/14096.shtml

Honey, give me a break! lol I calculated mine out to be 23 as a matter of fact. I broke 24 once, but only once. I think you're living in a dream world or you need to be taught how to check your mileage.

Here's what you do:
1. Reset your trip meter to 0.
2. Fill your vehicle up completely, go ahead and top it off.
3. Drive it and drive it until you're so low it makes you nervous!
4. Go to a gas station and fill it up all the way to the top like last time.
5. Now here's where it gets tricky.......note the mileage on your trip meter and divide it by how many gallons you put into the tank.
6. Grasp the fact your prelude is only getting 24 mpg max.
7. This one is my favorite: PM me back and tell me that I'm right about your gas mileage

Laters"

This Guy:

"For one, I'm a Tuner for various engine managements and i know tricks that many dont so you can shove that up your ****. I dont have to prove anything to you, i did this last weekend. 520 miles round trip on 12 gallons of gas. Oops, sorry, thats 43.xx mpg
nice injectors + purpose built bolt ons + good tuning = great gas mileage. so yea, 13.3 or so in the 1/4 mile and i get 43.xx mpg.

suck it beeyotch"

Ok, so I want to say who this was I was talking to, but I don't want to risk getting myself kicked off the forum. This forum has a load of knowledge for me and I can learn a lot from it. Plus, I'm really pleased with my Prelude and it's neat other people already know how to modify theirs. Off topic, I'm going to end up doing an exhaust on mine and could use some pointers on what to use. I've had bbk, flowmaster, basani, and cherry bombs on Mustangs but just don't know with a prelude.

Anyways, what do you guys think? Am I right on this that the guy is full of BS of is it really possible with this kind of setup he's got? I really, truly, honestly think, he's blowing steam because I think I intimidate him being a girl and being able to have a conversation with him about cars. lol You know how boys can be when chicks show them up...lol It's cute.

Brenna :-)

Re: Gas Mileage

I think the only Honda (other than hybrids) that got about that mileage was the mid 90's civics with the D15. 45mpg in a Prelude, no way. Might get a little better gas mileage if you had 14:1 compression on a built NA motor but then you would be paying 15 bucks a gallon for race fuel.

73.8? wow... that would say you are using low octane gas... If you look inside the gas...door? it says use premium unleaded only... Pls dont wreck ur engine :(

To make this post relevant: that guy is probably bsing you, or is very... confused and messed up doing math?

Re: Gas Mileage

Lol this is funny, I was just trying to figure out how many miles I got on a full tank.

City / Highway driving and this tank got me 25 MPG, But I made sure I NEVER exceeded the speed limit.

Usually I get about 20 - 21. But if you drive right you can get 25MPG or so.

Re: Gas Mileage

I get 25MPG City all the time floorin it or not. One time I went a hundred miles round trip with 1 real fat guy, 1 fat guy, 1 skinny guy and me in the car. Believe it or not I filled up before we went and by the time I got back it only went down 1 bar!!! Til this day I still scratch my head about that. It just doesn't seem right.

Re: Gas Mileage

Funny, cuz since i started my job...I havent been driving hard at all...and been going about 30 miles one way to work...I've been averaging about 28.5mpg. This past week, even after getting mixed up in two races with trailer trash civics with fart cans (and after raping them both from a dig AND a roll), when i filled up yesterday, I averaged 30.4. Interesting...

Dang I cant wait until I can make my darling a garage queen.

Re: Gas Mileage

Good to know I was in the right here :-) I sent him a PM to this page and maybe he'll see it. If so, then maybe he'll explain how's he's getting that mileage. I could understand maybe and that's a big maybe, over 25mpg with a crazy setup running him 13.3 but naa, no way for in the 40's unless it's a hybrid or something.

I did a full tune up on my car as soon as I got it and then averaged my gas mileage to 23mpg. Someone on here noted a bad O2 sensor.........I passed my inspection ok, could I still have a shoddy O2 sensor or two in there dragging me down? I'm for sure, getting and intake and exhaust to hopefully juice the average a bit but I'll probably just use the extra horses to go from stop light to stop light :-)
