This v-tec controller worth ****?

Hey guys just lookin at some v-tec controllers on ebay (as long as I can find one that works, I don't give a **** if it's top of the line or w/e), anyway i'd appreciate it if these could be given a look at and give me some feedback on 'em. Thanks

Re: This v-tec controller worth ****?

never seen or heard of any of those, i would stay away from them. if you want your vtec set a different crossover, the best thing to do is get a p28 or p72 ecu and take it somewhere and get it tuned.

Re: This v-tec controller worth ****?

yea, like i'm getting a p28 that's tuned for the vtec to kick in at 4200rpm but i'd like a vtec controller for when i'm cruisin on the highway doin about 80-85 and I don't want the vtec to kick in until I want it...saves on gas obviously

Re: This v-tec controller worth ****?

vtec dont kick on unless you are at WOT so unless you are balls to the wall on the highway it wont kick on

Re: This v-tec controller worth ****?

actually it kicks anytime you hit the crossover point, you dont have to be in WOT. well you shouldnt have vtec kickin at 4200 anyways. it should be between 4500 and up. you can loose power by setting it low in some cases.

and that's what i'm saying because I have the h23 tranny so the rpm's can get up there even when i'm just cruisin...1badbb6, could you elaborate on how you lose power with the vtec setting that low?

Re: This v-tec controller worth ****?

if you are worried about highway cruisin you could get an f22 tranny, nice and tall, when i do my H22 swap im keepin the f22 tranny, its better on gas, and will work better with a turbo setup

Re: This v-tec controller worth ****?

vtec engagement does depend on throttle position (as well as temps and oil pressure, and i think you need to be at least 14mph) ... but i think the throttle position required is half open and up anyways so not like that's too important

Re: This v-tec controller worth ****?

if you have ur vtec set at 4200 u will be in vtec when u go over 80 mph...and u will lose power at that rpm..i can guarantee it

Re: This v-tec controller worth ****?

Just get a used Apexi VAFC for like $70. Thats what I did and it works like a charm. Make sure you reset all the settings if you're getting it used.

Re: This v-tec controller worth ****?

Hey i got one of those!! Lol. I have the second one. When me and my friends put it in it didn't work so i thought i wasted my money. But after a few starts it started kickin vtec where i set it at. I have mine set at 4600 rpm. I think its a good point. But my advice would be 2 save up for a vafc neo or something. Its well worth the money. Thats what i plan on doing. But if you are wondering, i know for a fact that the 2nd one works.

Re: This v-tec controller worth ****?

The problem with the "vtec controllers" in the first post is that all they do is change the engagement point: they don't bring the relevant fuel/ignition maps with it.

So if you set the engagement point to 4200rpm for example, the cam changes over, but you're on the low cam fuel and maps until 5200rpm.

its all about torque curves take a look at some dynos, do some research before you just decide to set it somewhere. and like brash said just because you are changing the crossover point doesnt mean all of your fuel and ignition timing are also changing. thats why it is better to get an actual tune done rather than just a piggyback.

Re: This v-tec controller worth ****?

yea well unfortunately being the dumbass that i am i didnt research it like i should have when i ordered the new ecu...i know a guy on here with a field sfc-vtec for sale that i could probably get for 60 to 70 and that looks like a fairly decent brand. I really would have preffered an apexi vafc but yea i was hopin not to spend over 100 on one and thats not gonna happen
