thinking about getting 1995 vtec lude

just wondering what i should look for. like some common problems or problems you have with you 4th gen. or some questions that i should ask the owner. the one i'm looking at has 125k miles and looks really clean and everything is stock on it and they want 3000. i'd either get this or my friends 240 with 90k miles a few minor dings in it but every thing else is really nice. but he wants 4000. i could probably bring him down to 3500.

The Lude is a better car overall, especially when you're getting it cheaper.

Definitely the lude. If its stock and has been looked after, it will last you as long as you want to keep it!

common problems would be the same as any 20 year old car. smarty. worn out engines, gaskets, wear and tear...etc.

Re: thinking about getting 1995 vtec lude

First you got pissy because no one listed potiental problems to look for. THEN you got pissy because the person that listed potential problems DIDN'T list the car he thought you should buy.

Look for: Oil leaks, weird noises, weird smells, make sure all electrical systems work, make sure VTEC works (A.K.A, beat the **** out of it on the test drive), do compression/leak down tests if you want.

IMO: Get the Lude.

i got pissy cause no one answered my question and started an imaginary poll as to which car i should get when i never posed a question as to which car i should get. "thanks for reading and NOT participating in the imaginary....blah blah" i dont use sarcasm in text. thank you for the tips as well

When you list the possibility of buying more than one car, chances are that people are going to assume that you wanted their opinion. I've said it before and I'll say it again...the US 240SX has a ****ty truck motor in it.

Personally I'd still get the BB1. Now if I had to decide between a BB1 and a 200SX, that's a different story. I *heart* 200's.

Re: thinking about getting 1995 vtec lude

The H22 will burn a bit of oil, like any other VTEC. Also might want to make sure it is a bb4 not a bb1 with a engine swap. It is a older car, so you will have to check the suspension for any problems, if any problems accrue it would probably be in the suspension, due to it going over 125K of road. Then again 125K is not a lot for a Honda, just make sure the timing belt was replaced at the correct time, and normal routine maintenance has been done.

IMO 240sx are over rated, they take a lot of mods to make them good. I have seen many people who have 240sx try to drift and fail. If you are used to a FF layout, it might be hard to switch over to the FR with out a good bit of practice before going all out on some twistys. Don't get me wrong the 240sx can be good car, just not my style.

Yes it would be JHMBB4, or JHMBB1. A BB1 is the Si nonVTEC, and the BB4 is the H22 VTEC. If they havn't done the timing belt at around 100K, it would be a def no buy, shows they did not do normal maintenance. Brakes and plugs are a cheap and ez fix and should not adjust the price that much. Tires can adjust the price a bit, you don't want a car with bald tires. Also a 4th gen gets the normal Honda rust on the rear 1/4 panels. If you live in an area that dose not get that much salt on the roads this should not be a problem.
I suggest taking it for a test drive and make sure every thing is nice a tight. The suspension should not float around over bumps and around corners. Make sure the gear box shift into all gears easily and smoothly. Brakes are firm with no internal leaks in the MC.
Also check carfax for any reports. If it is a swap H22, it is still ok, just make sure it was installed properly.

Actually, the USDM BB1 is factory H22 equipped. The BB4 is the VTEC version with 4WS.

Sorry, BB1 is the h22, BB4 is also h22 but JDM, BB2 is the H23, and a BA8 is the f22. I was late and I wasn't paying attention when I wrote those posts.

I don't think it's a scam, but it's really fishy. The guy either A) is lying for some unknown reason, or B) doesn't really know **** about the car.

Either way, I'd avoid it.

I dunno to be honest. They might check, they might not. No harm in beating the hell out of it on a test drive anyway though.

Re: thinking about getting 1995 vtec lude

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH ya went to look at it today. the story is a year ago his friend hit a pole on the front driver side fender and just scraped up the whole side. and just a little while ago sold it to this dude, which is a mechanic, he got new fender door and quarter panel. cleaned up the engine. and that's all he's done. he said he thought it was an vtec because the exhaust was really loud it was an f22.... the things wrong with it were the airbag needed to be replaced, the diverside window wouldnt roll back up, ripples and possibly hail dents all over the body, it needed an alignment REALLY BAD. i was going all over the road for the first few seconds cause it was off so bad, brakes....i wanted to see how bad the brakes were cause they sounded pretty awfull i gently pulled on the e-brake while going ~45 and nothing happened. pulled alittle harder still nothing happed so i just cranked it back and nearly made my dad piss himself but still nothing happened. not sure if it was the pads or calipers. and the clutch i couldnt feel when it engaged it felt like stepping in a bowl of pudding... but the interior was really nice i loved the way the car caressed my body. while i was driving it i was thinking 600, 1000 max. i couldnt get the guy lower that 2k. what you guys think
