well something finally happend. I was driving my car back into town, it ran perfect all day but started to bog down in second gear through an intersection. I pulled into the parking lot, and it started dieing again, thank god it happened right infront of advance auto. I parked the car, and it was idling rough, when i would give it gas it would bog down almost to stall but would still keep running, when i would get it up above 1000rpm it would run almost fine but as soon as it would drop below 1000rpm it would bog down and stall. I quickly remembered that someone posted a DIY thread on replacing the fuel filter so i thought i would give that a shot. I replaced the fuel filter and we can still get the engine to turn over and you can tell the engine is starting, there is suction from the intake but it seems 1.) the fuel pump is bad 2.)the fuel regulator is bad 3.) could be something areallyreally bad which i am praying to go is not the case or 4.) the intake control diaphrame (ICD) this is a relay or sensor that sits in between the resonator and the factory air box, i think it could be this just because when my resonator got blown off from the tire exploding this past year, i took the stock airbox off with it and just stuck a K&N air filter onto the stock tubing, so the sensor or relay may be sitting open since all i did was stick a cone filter on stock tubing. Where gonna go back to the parking lot later and take the fuel lines off again and place the ingition on to see if fuel is running through the lines, if that is the case where fuel is running through the lines, what else could this possibly be??

Any help or recomendations are welcome, you guys are awsome at helping with these problems, oh yeah its a 1996 f22a1 prelube

Thanks much,
Mike

The ICD cannot be the problem, i looked back in my manual and that is only for the H22a models. so i don think that could be it.

We just got back from looking at the car, no luck. We did look at the fuel lines and they are squirting fuel when you turn the inginition on. We took out the 1st cylinder spark plug and it was black, im pretty sure this means it is running rich, so it hints at a problem with the air fuel mixture. Or it may be the coil. The funny thing is though every time we started it it would turn over and try to start but then it would die. One time i started it and it jumped up to 1500rpm, which is normal when starting this car, but then would die when i would touch the gas. Another time it started running and I did not touch the gas, it was at starting idle and then just bogged down and died. I think it could be a problem with an air sensor or something but im just kinda clueless. Another thought is that it could be the fuel regulator. But were just not sure.

Any thoughts?????

Well, just got back from investigating the car again, we took the intake off eyed that out it looked good, tried tapping on the map sensor with a hammer, it got it to run but then died again,(ran for about 10seconds), i think it might be the idle sensors or something in that area.

One weird thing about this was we took one of the o2 sensors off, started it, and the check engine light didnt come on, we disconnected the map sensor started it, and not check engine light and it didnt start, so my car is not showing any check engine lights, also ontop of this we disconnected the battery, and let it restart the computer, the engine tried to run but yet again nothing.

WHAT IS WRONG!!!!!! we have checked what seems to be everything!!!!!

Im going to have the car towed to honda, and have them diagnose the problem, once they figure out what it is I will have the car towed back to my house so i can do it, unless they give me a good deal.

I did stop by there earlier this morning and told them everything i have checked and they said i have pretty much ran the gammut of what they would check so this should be interesting to see what the problem is.

Just to keep some more info on this, I had the Prelube towed to honda down the street, i know a couple of guys in there so hopefully i wont get charged out the ass. But basically they are going to diagnos the problem, being that i have checked almost everything i can.

The one thing i didnt check they we thought of when i was there was that the timing belt could have skipped a tooth or two. My doubts on this being the problem is that I had the timing belt and water pump replaced over the summer right after getting the car. Another reason i do not think that this is the problem is because when the engine would run, it still sounded perfect, it would only bog down and die when you would press on the gas or when it got below 1200rpms or so.

I AM STILL CLUELESS ON THIS!!!! ANY HELP IS GOOD HELP!!! thanks

Re: Car died on the way home from work S.O.S.

You may not be getting a code because who ever had the car b4 you may have removed the CEL Bulb (happened to me) Or it is possible but unlikely that th bulb it self has actually burned out...Good luck bro!~

UPDATE: I talked to honda, and they said it is the fuel pump, I thought it wasnt because we pulled the lines off and started the car and it was squirtin like a whore from hell. But we didnt cycle it more than once, the fuel shot out I tossed my cig so i would blow up the parking lot and we reconnected them. Honda told me it is the fuel pump and im waiting for an estimate, it is something easy that i can do, but we would have to get the car towed again, and pay the 160 for the pump, so im now trying to figure out what will be cheaper.

Funny thing about honda is they want me to go over there to take my sub box that has like 4 wires connected to it out, and they wont do it themselves. But we spent roughly 8 hours in a parking lot replacing shyte and trying to diagnos this whole mess. And it turned out we were right about it,

WHAT THE FUK!!!!!

hoHonda wants 775 to replace a fuel pump, that shyte is redickuluos i will have it towed back to my house so i can do it for 150, MOTHER FUKERSSS

Re: Car died on the way home from work S.O.S.

you can do that yourself. you just have to remove some interior body stuff then remove the pump cover. i dont think you need to drop the tank...lol

Re: Car died on the way home from work S.O.S.

yeah but this has been what i thought as wrong the whole time, cause we really couldnt hear it turning on, and there was pressure in the lines, but we only opened the lines enough, to get fuel all over our faces, and watching my dad scream like alittle girl while tossing his cig thirty to forty feet. When the gas came out we just tighted it up alittle bit, so we probably just released the "natural line build up pressure" because that will stay there until u release the line.

My dad and i are buying tow strapps, and will be skitchin the whip home, I hopefully will have time to do a write up on how to replace your fuel pump.

Anybody think i wrote to much on this one???

Re: Car died on the way home from work S.O.S.

know how i know you and your dad are retards???????????????
you smoke cig's while working with gasoline

just make sure the FP is still functioning properly. turn the key to III and have your dad stick his head in the trunk to listen for the hum.

and yes you've wrote entirely too much. no body feels like reading it (myself included) which is why you haven't gotten many responses.

^but you miss one thing....nobody has gotten pissed for lack of information lmao..

HONDA CAN EAT DICK

Soooo, after a few days and honda bull****, it was the fuel pump!!!! I pulled all the interior and seats out to get to the sunofabitch, pulled it out and replaced the sock filter in the tank and the fuel pump, i also replaced the fuel filter in the engine bay, I took pictures so i can try and write a well defined DIY thread, but this will take some time, i gotta hop on photobucket so the pictures arnt small. the whole replacement in parts cost about 220, i payed an extra 120 for honda to take a look at it and 100 to get it towed back from honda so i could fix it, THEY WANTED 900 to replace this.

Also, honda when they were "diagnosing my car" they found the unistalled car alarm that was in it from when i bought the car almost a year ago. They decided to be fuking Magivers and re-install it without telling me, yesterday we had the car towed but when i got in it at honda, the fuking alarm goes off, this has never happened ever since i owned it. we had to spend about 5 extra hours yesterday, figuring out were the brains of the **** was so we could cut it out, but then i found a secret red button in the car, held it down with the keys in, and got it to shut off.

I flipped a desk and threw a pissy fit/tempertandrum in the honda office yesterday, and then asked about there upcoming V8!!! lol
