Help a student out

So I'm doing a documentary on Imports for a class, and the deadline is coming up. I need to poll people on why they chose an import rather than a domestic.

Please pick the ONE choice that mattered most to you when selecting your car.

So fill out the poll for me please and I give you my thanks.

Re: Help a student out

honestly, everyone of those is the reason why for me. Overall I'd say reliability. the only reason I put money in my car is b/c I WANT to instead of HAVING to.

pull up 4th gen civic's repair record. then compare it to a 4th gen camaro...yeah the camaro is going to have triple of the repairs the civic would have, just to keep it driving.

Bring up the repair record for the old pickup trucks and mussel cars and how may pre 86 inports you still see on the roads but if your taking just 86+ then ya better reliability.

IMO domestic manufacturers have a quality to profit margin that is far below every other auto manufacturer in the world.

I'm going with reliability - but I need to say that it is a total tie and toss up between that and most economical, both of those are the top two reasons for me - followed closely by LOOKS

Re: Help a student out

i think i picked an import because those were the first kind of cars i was exposed to. when i really started to read about cars they were always in super street. imports were the only kind of cars i knew about. if i got into american muscle at a young age like i did with imports it would be a different ballpark.

I like Honda for the quality. I didnt so much like them before I drove one. I chose a Prelude because it is unique and not your everyday Honda.

Re: Help a student out

Why an import car aye!!!!!

The retail valve of a honda and toyota is alot better, the quailty is alot nicer, the proformance of the h22 in 1993 was off the charts, and id have to say the looks of a import knock the doors off the looks of a domestic

Now domestics cars honestly now adays are cheaply built and have more recalls and problems then a 115 year old lady in a nursing home pushing people around (god bless the old lady who recently died) but id have to say late 60's/early 70's was the peak of american made cars. Style, reliablity, and proformance

Re: Help a student out

I'd definitely say I bought mine because it was unique. I had never seen a Prelude other than my buddy's (the one I bought). On top of that, I've had ZERO reliability problems with my Prelude, but when I had my Olds Cutlass, I was dropping $500 a month just for repairs to keep it barely running. Also... it's fun (but kind of sad) when you can rule the streets in your town with a 200hp 4-cylinder HONDA.

Re: Help a student out

i wanted a sports car but got the prelude so i wouldnt drown myself in a loan. and i also have a 98 4runner with 250,000 miles and never been in the shop so i think imports are still more reliable than domestics. Not to say domestics are not catching up by force or choice but they are.

Re: Help a student out

in my opinion i love the import and domestic scene, but as my lude is my first car i wanted it to get decent gas mileage/hp and i also love modifying things especially cars so a honda was a good way to go for all these things (relatively speaking) but i didn't want a civic...not my thing + negative stigma surrounding them. i didn't have the money for a new civic either or else i would've looked into those. i like the new civics 10x better than the older body style.

all of the above really but i'm going to say unique because if you look at my 3 cars they are all JDM and i have never seen another ascot innova, i've seen one other type S and i have only seen one other 3rd gen unless you count an inx, then it's two!
and i like being different!
