there is a ticking noise in my civic that just came up a couple of days ago...i seems to be coming from the back of the engine near the MI not sure yet tho.. i bought a stethoscope but when i got back to try to listen to the engine it only lasted for about 5 seconds and didnt come back, engine is a 1.8 b18c w about 48000 on it...

Re: bearing-rod failure

ticking is usually a problem in the head (valves)
knocking is usually in the bottom end (bearings)

OK... well yesterday while i was ticking more it seemed to be up top the engine more to the right then left side... but as the engine got to normal temp. it went away.... the ticking was not too loud but still noticeable yesterday i reved it probably around 3500 and went away but as it came back down around 1500 it came back for a lil while and went away again... its got me confused and scared i aint driving it

Re: bearing-rod failure

depends on oil speed, temp, load, and conditions

at cold startup i see 100+psi.
once warmed up, it idles at 25psi, and while cruising is around 60-75psi.

sounds like you have one (or more) bent valves, or something else wrong in the head. do a compression test and that'll tell you the condition of your valves and valve seals.

Re: bearing-rod failure

a rod knock is very distinctive. Valve tick is a tick tick tick tick....tick tick tick tick. Piston knock is tick tick....tick tick (double speed). rod knock is tick...tick...(single speed and not even close to a "tick" noise)
