rpm meter Jumping up and down!!! help!!

>>>>>>98 Honda Prelude Type SH<<<<<

So, everytime i hit vtec!!!! my rpm meter just bounces right from
5200 -----> to 7000 or close to 8000, then bounces back and fourth even past redline and then bouncing back to 6000 rpm.

---basically, my meter is going crazy when i go past vtec
and what happens is my vtec kicks in and goes aways when the meter jumps up and down.
------->>>Also Poor acceleration!!!!!

its like my vtec is trying so hard to kick in but can't make it, it barely kicks in and goes aways.

anyways heres my setup...

brand new--->>NGK Iridium Spark Plugs
brand new--->>Cap and rotor
brand new--->>some spark plug wires (not NGK)
brand new--->>coil, ignition control module

------- a friend told me that its my timing belt or balancer belt. please help!!!

hmm i dont know if it is the vtec solonoid, but just to make sure its not that, im going to test it with a 12v to hear clicks.

--------the thing is that i did the timing on it myself and i was sure everything was TDC from the number 1 pistons to the crankshaft, cam gears, lined up.. then I take it to HONDA and they said my timing was off so they had to redo it. IM like yhea right!! whatever.. so now a friend told me that its my timing. so this weekend im going to take my engine apart to check the timing belt and balancer belt.. any other suggestions before i go and do that???

Hm.... Pop the hood and take a look at the negetive side of the battery. Find the wire where it grounds onto the frame right infront of the radiator. Make sure it's tight, if it isn't that could cause strange play in the gauges. but it does sound like a faulty/dirty VTEC solonoid
