Straight pipe exhaust?

What is straight pipe exhaust? Is this when there is no catalytic converter and just a pipe and muffler?

Re: Straight pipe exhaust?

Unless you are going to go all out and make a race car, dont do a straight pipe. Well, you can do whatever you want really...:bandit:

Not only do you 1)pollute the environment you also create noise pollution. I had a straight pipe setup a long time ago when i first bought my Prelude...dont get me wrong, the acceleration is wicked. But the smell & noise(inside and outside of the car) was unbearable. Plus, depending what state you live in, think about emissions regulations. I think some states dont require it so you look it up.

I like the smell inside the car after WOT runs haha. It's more race-carish. But to each his own. If you can get away with it, no cat ftw!

yea i gotta agree w/ Mr_y on this one. High flow cats and [performance] muffler really is whats up. its the best of both worlds really. good sound, good performance. I'm not one way or the other on the res but it will def help if you want to cut down on some of the noise.

Re: Straight pipe exhaust?

For the gain, a test pipe isn't worth the hassel. Sure, you see between a 0.5-1.5hp at the wheels gain, but you add nasty flurocarbons to the atmosphere and like has been said, the smell both inside and out is not only a nasty smell, it's highly toxic.

Just get a high flow and be done with it.

Re: Straight pipe exhaust?

Well I'm still running a CAT, and a res, and some type of N1 style muffler. Its still loud as heck. I guess maybe I have lost most the honeycomb in the CAT I'm sure its toast because I am having surging problems during acceleration. I have had a recent tune up, Denso Ir plugs, NGK wires, new cap and rotor button.

I do have a straight pipe I got its still new never installed even has aft O2 bung. has all bolts and nuts and gaskets if anyone is interested in it. I found a hi flow magnaflow that I'm getting soon.

Re: Straight pipe exhaust?

a typical street car should posses a cat, at least one resonator and a muffler out the back.

race car = open downpipe or open header

straight pipes sound like complete ass and only makes you appear to be the typical stereotyped honda owner.

you'd melt a bunch of stuff in the engine bay and completely destroy any power the engine was trying to make. Combustion temperatures would actually decrease due to running no header at all but explain to me your reasoning for asking why you would warp a valve?

I dunno, but i thought i remember hearing from my teacher in high school that you could warp a valve from it. from the difference in temp. with the hot a** engine and then having the colder air hitting it.. could be wrong

either way, No Header = No Good
