Yeah, in my most VTEC happy days, I never burned more than a quart a month.. That sounds like a leak.

Re: NEED HELP WITH OIL BURNING

What motor do you have ... whats your budget ... what kind of down time do you have to work with your car ... how many fingers am I holding up????

Need more info. Specifically what motor ...???? what kind of horsepower are you looking to put down??? Minor street mods or full race ready track application.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess H22, but I'm not going to sit here and list prices and upgrades for something you dont have.

Information my friend. We need it.

Re: NEED HELP WITH OIL BURNING

I'm pretty sure bluish smoke is oil burning. Look, get a big white piece of paper, cardboard. Drive your car. And place the big piece under your engine area overnight. If its leaking (especially 2-3 quarts) than it will show on the paper. For the black smoke If its throwing a code it may be faulty O2 sensor, and it may be giving a rich mixture. That would be my guess with black smoke. You may have a leak that it only happens when operating and it leaks when you drive. you could also look under the car and see if oil is being splashed down there when the air hits it.

Re: NEED HELP WITH OIL BURNING

Thats the worst case of fried pistons rings I have ever heard of.

2-3 quarts a week is no joke. You're most likely going to have to rebuild the bottom end to fix this totally. I think its pennzoil high milage that is supposed to slow leaks and burning. Go look for it when you buy more oil. Its like a brownish gold color. Use this until I guess you have the money to rebuild. You're going to have to wait for someone else to chime in on this one ... this is serious

Re: NEED HELP WITH OIL BURNING

If it was leaking he wouldnt have to worry so much about it going out his exhaust

Sounds like some really bad piston rings to me. Emphasis on really

Try to use the search button and type in "burning oil" or anything related. It'll give you more peoples' inputs, and you can see solutions to your oil burning madness.

Re: NEED HELP WITH OIL BURNING

There have been a few cars lately that have passed through my family with burning oil like that and they werent motor problems. My moms Buick park avenue right now leaks oil like a freight train and guess what we never see it leak anywhere? Thats because its just landing on one of the things next to her supercharger and burning away causing us never to notice until we looked for ourself.I wouldnt go saying its the motor just yet bro.

Re: NEED HELP WITH OIL BURNING

He says above ^^^^^^ that he sees it smoking?
Unless its smoking from under the hood, then thats internal. You may be right tho. Like I said I cannot say anything for sure, I said above that hes best waiting for other people to chime in on this.

Hey buddy, do us a favor and take a look under your hood. Look for wet spots on your motor. Usually they collect somewhere, and it doesnt always all get burned. How often do you see smoke coming out of your exhaust?

I got quoted $1700 for a full oem rebuild on my H22. But 2-3 quarts a week that's a ton of oil burning.

Re: NEED HELP WITH OIL BURNING

Well the guy i bought the car from sprayed the top of the motor with oil and the under carriage so it is a little bit difficult to tell. it wasnt till my buddy was driving behind me he said when i would step on hit a huge cloud would release and when i looked at the trunk you can see black spots. i will try to put card board underneath but if it was leaking how would it blow out my tail pipe. i dont know another thing can u check my profile to see a pic of my car b/c i am having a hard time loading it up. i would like to take pics of motor and car to show them to u
i would like to diagnos this problem before looking into rebulid but i had a quick question about pistons is JE pistons the way to go and if so is 500 to much to pay for them. i know its not going to be cheap to do but i would like to do it right because i will probly after that point keep the car till im dead

Re: NEED HELP WITH OIL BURNING

Black smoke usually means its a rich mixture. Blue smoke means oil burning. Is you cat still good? The reason i say check for leaks is i dont think you would still have a running car burning 2-3 qts. a week. It just strange. May be you got some oil leaking on the exhaust in the front.

What kind of sleeves you plan on using those JE's with? Can't run forged pistons in h22s without sleeves.
