auto-to-manual...4thGEN-to-5thGEN???

i've been reading up on this.. every site i can think of and i can't find the answer. I have a 5th gen craptacular auto and want a 5spd.. i've always wanted a 5 spd.. but finally my auto is going out so it is now a must do.

My issue is finding all of the parts.. in my area there are just no yards with 5th gen ludes. But.. i've seen a few 4th gen's on craigslist that are still running fine for a like 1500. some have body issues but i just want all the **** dealing with the tranny swap... i've read the posts.. i have seen the swap pages for 4th gens and 5th gens. the parts all seem to be the same that need to be swapped.

So.. can i buy a 4th gen.. and use the parts out of it in my 5th gen?

Transmissions Assembly (97+)
Trans mounts-side
Engine Mount-rear (rear is optional-the rear auto mount will work)
Flywheel and bolts
Clutch Kit and bolts
Clutch Master Cylinder
*Clutch Slave Cylinder
*Clutch Dampener
*Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS)
*Reverse Switch
*Hydrolic Lines
*5spd Starter
Clutch Pedal Assembly
Brake Pedal Assembly
Shifter Assembly-- i'm worried about this
Shift linkage-- i'm worried about this
Auto ECU or 5speed ECU
5spd Intermediate shaft (half-shaft) -- i'm worried about this
5spd Gauge Cluster (optional)
Cotter Pins (assorted sizes)
Assorted Nuts and Bolts

does anyone know if this is possible... if not i'm looking at a lot of work parting this stuff out... i really want to just buy a car and pull parts

Re: auto-to-manual...4thGEN-to-5thGEN???

okay... ive done the swap several times.

things you need w/ compatibility....
tranny 92 and up prelude 5spd tranny
even accords w/ f22.
h22/f22/h23
trans mount from h22/h23 5gen i think from an accord but like late 90s but i dont remember right now
h22 clutch kit
h22 flywheel
h22 pressure plate
h23/h22 half shaft 92 and up preludes
h22/h23 5spd starter 92 up preludes
clutch master 50- at auto parts store
slave master 45- at auto parts store just get for 92 and up prelude
reverse switch should be on tranny easy to wire
clutch pedal 92 and up prelude
brake pedal either cut it or get 92 and up prelude
shifter assembley 92 up and prelude w/ h22/h23 usually can get w/ cables
can use your auto ecu can always buy 5spd one later
as for the hydrolic lines and dampener.... get a steel braided line made up... from the clutch master the to the slave master 6 feet long. more then long enough. you ll get an awesomely stiff pedal from this.
hopefully this helps you out. just so your not limited to the type of car and years you can use.

Re: auto-to-manual...4thGEN-to-5thGEN???

i'm doing the auto to manual swap as well in my 4th gen...hookin up the clutch pedal is the most annoying thing ever and you'll get a headache trying to route the OEM clutch hard lines so just get the braided line made. Everything else is pretty much straightforward. I'm still stuck on the wiring but I'm using 97prelude's advice the next time i get a chance to check everything out, the only wiring that i think is MANDATORY are the reverse lights, but all the others like for cruise control (which you wouldnt have anyway unless you bought the whole unit), clutch safety (keeps car from starting unless clutch is depressed-i think?)...it might also be safe to buy the bolts that secure your intermediate shaft to your engine block so i would just go ahead and order those as well...another thing i just learned thanks to nick is that your shift linkage runs over your rear motor mount if your unsure how they fit in there...
hope this help i'll help you as i uncover more
