Beating on a stage ? clutch

I have a stage 1 competition clutch, and I live in the mtns of NC...

While adjusting to the thing I must admit that we had some harsh engagements together. You know the ones when you are backing in an awkward position, or going straight up hill from a dead stop and you hear what I assume are the pucks beating the **** out of pressure plate or something... feel free to correct my ignorant ass. You know, the "thunk thunk thunk" with a little bucking action.

So my question you ask? now that I have adjusted to it (stock clutches... like my dad's 06 mx5... now remind me of driving an auto back when I was learning to drive stick) should I be concerned about the relatively few mistakes I made with the thing? I have not had any issues with it, but hoped some of you guys with more experience in wearing these things out might have some good input.

I don't really think it is a problem, I just kinda assumed that these heavier clutches have a tendency to let you know if you **** it up a little... if the engagement is a little harsh, but I am all the way off the clutch petal pretty quick, can I assume my tranny is not being affected? God forbid I **** up my m2b4.

Like I said I have not been having trouble of late, and it was minimal during the adjustment, I just don't know much about these things... I do know that the stage 1 clutch and m2b4 will get you ass off the line quick at 3000rpms.

Thanks for reading...

Re: Beating on a stage ? clutch

Okay, so I admit I had been drinking and it was a stupid question... I'm a damn good driver and my h23a1 I bought with 198K (they said the clutch was 2 years old) ran for it's 3+ years on the same OEM clutch and still felt just as good as ever the day I traded up to the h22a... The h23a1 was the first manual I drove on the highway more than once... (I drove a friends bronco through our college town after dropping him off at class). Luckily with a cool wife, dad, and friends, I have gotten to toy around with alot more, often very sweet, manuals...

point being... it was a dumb question... the grabbing power of the stage 1 clutch amplifies small mistakes (missed timing), and I found there was a learning curve. Now I can cut loose on it, and as long as I don't hestitate, it's smooth as butter.

I was mostly just hoping for some feedback on experiences with, and the longevity of these clutches.

Re: Beating on a stage ? clutch

my exedy stage 1 has lasted 20,000 miles on first H23, 5,000 more @ 6psi, 3,000 on 2nd H23, and so far 4,000 on the F22. but i'm expecting to replace it kinda soon, cuz she's not gonna last too much longer @ 10psi.

so yea, they should last a decent while.

Re: Beating on a stage ? clutch

^thanks, but I love the clutch now... I drove my dad's mx5 home last night (about 20 miles on backroads in the foothills of NC) and the clutch is as easy as my wife's corolla, but I have really grown to appreciate the stage 1.
