Help, what the F is wrong with my clutch?

I step in my car, press the clutch and it damn near hits the floor almost to the point where the clutch won't engage. This wasn't a gradual thing, it was fine the night before and all of a sudden it just sinks to the floor.

I know brake master cylinders do this with brakes, is there something similar with my clutch pedal? It seems to get a little firm after I drive a while, but mostly it just sinks. It's been like this past two days. This morning the worst. Any ideas? Is there some type of clutch fluid I may have to refill or something?

Funny this kind of happened a few days after I got an oil change and my clutch was fine before...no sign of this ever happening.

Try and bleed your clutch, there should be a little nipple lookin thing on your tranny that bleeds it.

Re: Help, what the F is wrong with my clutch?

You have a leak sounds like, check your master and slave clutch cylnder, when one goes the toher is right behind it.

Slave cylnder is by the clutch pedal and the master cylnder is by the fire wall and your clutch fluid, also check you clutch lines

Re: Help, what the F is wrong with my clutch?

It used dot 3 brake fluid!

Check that fluid level and like 98prelkudesh said bleed the system also the master cylnder is right in the circled area

Re: Help, what the F is wrong with my clutch?

I checked what I think is the maste cylinder and what bdizzel124 circled above. It's a small resevoir next to the bigger brake resevoir. I checked it and it's bone desert dry. Is this for my clutch and where I should use dot3 brake fluid? Also if I have a leak in my clutch meaning if I lose pressure again will I notice fluid beneath my vehicle to confirm a leak?

better fill that bad boy up then bleed the clutch, because there will probably be air bubbles in it.

Re: Help, what the F is wrong with my clutch?

damn dude...if I fill it up is it safe to drive it until I can get it bled? It would have to be later today or tomorrow, but I need to drive it to get home and all that.

If I fill it up and keep pumping the clutch that won't push the air out of it?

Re: Help, what the F is wrong with my clutch?

Bleed the clutch!!!!!! You can burn out your cluth with air bubles and no fluid, put it right in that resivor. If no one takes pics or shows you where the master and slave cylnder ae ill get some pics when i get out of work, Also find your leak, no snice of filling it up if tomoorw its gonna be empty

Re: Help, what the F is wrong with my clutch?

nope it wont work because the air wuold have nowhere to go but stay in the lines. It takes like 5 minutes get someone to pump the clutch for you and then open the bleeder valve.

I wouldn't even chance it with 5 miles, you dont want to replace a $300 part plus some time all because you cant take 5 minutes out of the day to do somehting.

Re: Help, what the F is wrong with my clutch?

I took a quick trip down the street to a local mechanic. Looks like my slave cylinder is leaking. It's wet inside my car right behind the clutch pedal. So I'm going to buy a new one later and get it put in tomorrow morning hopefully. I should be able to make it home I think. Thanks guys.

I was also told that basically I can put fluid in there if I want since it's leaking air is no concern.

Re: Help, what the F is wrong with my clutch?

sounds like the master cylinder. the slave unit is on the front of the motor by the header. the master cylinder is no fun to swap. it looks so easy but its a knuckle buster for sure.

Re: Help, what the F is wrong with my clutch?

Okay I'm confused. Which is the one right behind the clutch pedal? that's what's bleeding. Is that the clutch master cylinder or is that called the slave cylinder? I know I should replace both of those things but dollars is tight I'll do the obvious leak first then the other later. I'm confused as to which is which.

Also I'm getting the part from autozone. Any of you guys familiar with the brands from autozone? One brand is 'Brakeware', another is ' Luk' and one called 'Beck Arnley'. thanx.

Re: Help, what the F is wrong with my clutch?

Its like 100 bucks for both i know it sucks but i replaced one and come to find out the other one was bad also i had to waste the time and gas to get the other part. I always get these confused but the master cylnder is on the clutch pedal and the slave cylnder is on the tranny like Neck said. the harderst thing with the master is the pin that connect to the clutch

Re: Help, what the F is wrong with my clutch?

I will thanks. Well right now the clutch reservoir is dry and I'm still able to get into first pretty much barely. If I change the master cylinder myself will I be able to engage first gear with dry? I want to change it myself and get it to the mechanic to change the slave and fill up and bleed the clutch fluid.
