anypne ever polished rims?

alright so ive done some research but i can never get a definate answer.

i was told i can just use 400-1500 grit sandpaper, some soap and water, mothers wax and a terry cloth, and a lot of time and patience.

is that a true way of polishing my wheels? id rather not get into it and fgure out im doing it the wrong way and jack my wheels up.

thanks
