how to keep your car in vtec?
when in a drag race, its best to keep your car in vtec obviously, what would i need to do to achieve this. when i shift into 2nd ill be at 4500 and my vtec is 5200, is that just a question of tuning or what?

Re: how to keep your car in vtec?
VAFC II would fix that problem.

Re: how to keep your car in vtec?
yea, i saw this guys youtube vid, and he shifted at 7000 and still was at his vtec point, pretty sick, he was in vtec the whole time, even the start he reved up to 5000 for his start then slowly let his clutch out

|
|||
Re: how to keep your car in vtec?
What I do in that situation is I keep in first gear for up to 7600 RPM's (note I dont do this on a daily basis) and switching to second brings me down right about 5000 (more or less) then to third gear just shift at redline and youll find yourself in VTEC throught the race. But mos def listen to steph about that vtec air fuel controller made by Apexi

Re: how to keep your car in vtec?
get the APEXi VAFCII and have it properly tuned and you can time that VTEC however you please. i'm pretty sure it let's you store a few presets for diff driving conditions too.

OBX test pipe is basically a piece of piping for your exhaust. It has flanges on both sides so it will bolt in place of your catalytic convertor. This removes the cat, and thus frees up a couple of hp... And, kills kittens and motorists alike. Yay Environment! Header discussion is a very interesting topic. And can be big $$... $1200+ for a custom one. Quote:
thats what Im here for... Just to make you look stupid. ![]()

Re: how to keep your car in vtec?
Check out my ride (in the sig)... I have eCtune, would cost about $600 but I gained about 10 torque throughout the powerband and my crossover is set at 4800... easy to keep her in vtec... but high enough not to interfere with daily driving... here's the tune...
another tuning option you won't gain much from a header unless you spend a grand on it... they are essentially the same as our stock header... I'm talking OBX, Megan, DC Sports... I have a ceramic HP Racing header, but it does not necessarily need to be a higher priority than tuning... you will gain way more from a good tune. www.hottexhaust.com ... great deals on real high flow cats... I have a metal substrate one. Put at least a 2.5" exhaust on that thing. Do you have a short ram intake? I have K&N drop in filter that was used less than a year.

Re: how to keep your car in vtec?
hi,jonnybuts here,i have no controlers or gadgits like that for vtec but i can still stay in vtec from stop to off the clock,heres how,ITS A HONDA,SO SCREW IT,because it will just laugh at you.take off in first and dont change until you hear the limiter bouncing on the red line and do the same in every gear.make sure your car is warmed up first and you will never have a problem.here is some statistics about vtec;s in the last 15 years ,honda have built 16 million vtec systems and not 1 ever failed,honda used these vtecs for racing purpose.but when other car makers were throwing racing engiens into road cars and making millions honda decided to do the same.nsx was the first car with vtec and since then vtec is still been made.so go out and try what i said on a private rd and let me know how you get on dude,jonnybuts

Re: how to keep your car in vtec?
I would not even worry about trying to get that done.
V tec controllers= problems= waste of money=no good just my imput |
|
||||
Re: how to keep your car in vtec?
i just have a true short shifter and i shift very fast right around 78-7900 rpm (little bit o redline) and i have no problem staying in vtec.

|
|||
Re: how to keep your car in vtec?
shift at 8k, you can also get a new ecu with any program out there (crome, ec tune, neptune, etc) and program vtAK! to engage earlier.

Re: how to keep your car in vtec?
yea, i knew that shifting higher would do it, but i was aiming for getting a controller, so i dont continuously redline
|
|
||||
Re: how to keep your car in vtec?
Why would you not want to continuiously redline? You make the most power shortly before the limiter, so why shift earlier?
(NOTE: I'm not sure how far off the limiter you make the most power, but it's not much before it)

Re: how to keep your car in vtec?
I've got the Apexi AFC NEO and I would say to go with the VAFC II. It is an older system but gives you two different tunes and I just think its a little more user friendly. The Neo is great I got VTEC control for low to high and high back to low as well as VTEC unmatch to change the A/F ratio during the crossover and A/F ratio at a bunch of different adjustable rpm. I love it I just wish I had a second tune saved for around town and then just switch over for race mode. Thanks to it I got my crossover at 4700 with no jolts, its nice and smooth

Re: how to keep your car in vtec?
that is sweet, i will ahve to look into it
|
|
|||
Re: how to keep your car in vtec?
so what do you guys think the best is to set my crossover to when i get it, 4500? 4600? 4700?
|
|
||||
Re: how to keep your car in vtec?
it depends... I recommend getting on a dyno and having a pro take a swing at it.

Re: how to keep your car in vtec?
That's the only way to do it. Run once on the dyno with VTEC engaging at 2000rpm (essentially turning it on the whole time) and once with VTEC engaging at 7750rpm (effectively turning it off), and where the two torque curves cross over is where the VTEC crossover needs to be. I drove a mate's car once that had VTEC moved to 4500 and it was rubbish; there's absolutly nothing worse than getting up great speed, then shifting into a hole where there's no torque.
