Questions about tools---

I've been playing with the idea of getting an air compressor and some air tools to work on my car at home, and small home projects (nailers, etc...)

What kind of specs should I be looking for? Is it possible at all to get something from like Harbor Freight or even Sears for around $200 that will suit my home shop needs?

I know that I'd want an electric motor, and one that is oil lubricated so that I dont wake up my neighbors or roomates (or g/f for that matter) when I'm working late at night in the garage, but what are the minimums that I could go for a weekend DIY'er on a budget.

Also, assuming your answers to the above questions yield results out of my price range, I'm going to be doing some suspension/brake work on my lude and I'm gonna need a good torque wrench to make sure I do things to spec.

I'm also going to need a good sized break bar I would imagine when working on my hubs etc for my up coming 5 lug swap.

Can anyone recomend any brands/stores/etc... for someone on a budget?

Ultimately I'm trying to build up my tool collection and I dont want to cheap out but at the same time I'm a weekend DIY'er I dont need to spend massive amounts of money as though this is my fulltime job.

Thanks for the tips and help guys!

Re: Questions about tools---

For like wrenches id chose husky, great coustmer service and they replaced so many sockets for me, most air tools work for ever as long as you oil them befor each use per day. I love my husky compressor, it is good for small things expect for cranking up the psi to remove the crankshaft pully!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dude. Whenever in doubt, go with Sears. they have a lifetime warranty on ALL tools and shiznit. If it breaks, take it to them, and they'll replace it. I love it! 3 broken 1/4in universals = 3 brand new 1/4in universals = happy jesse.

Re: Questions about tools---

yea I know you get what you pay for, the thing is I dont want to buy a compressor with specs above the basic at home use that i'll need it for and throw away money.

At the same time i dont want to buy something thats inadequate.

Sears salesmen are helpful but from what I remember they're on commission and of course thier main goal is to upsell. So I'd like to have a good idea on what I need, and what specs I'll need before I go in.

:)
