H22 Cam seal; saving your oil leak

This should and will eventually turn into a DIY thread, but for everyone who's got a pesky oil leak this is pretty much guaranteed to fix it.

the OEM Honda part is one part i will rightfully say NO THANKS to. when mine came off there was no o ring and virtually no sealant on in around it. and it was plastic?

Skunk 2 is my preferred brand for parts for my prelude, something about them gives me confidence that my money is well spent, i literally just put the gasket maker and seal in, when it stops raining and it dries i will return with pictures.

yay! no more oil-ly sided engine!!!

it may seem like alot paying 30 some odd bucks for a cam seal, but as always do it once, do it right.

STR is good as well. It was stated on another site, and I agree with it, that someone else makes them and other companies just put their logos on them and sell them, so with the exception of Honda, I think most of them all are the same, but a detailed DIY would't be great for this Tim. Just make another thread for it when you post it up. I'm thinking about doing this when I take my valve cover off to paint it.

i will make another thread when it all clears up out there.

STR (now out of buisness)
Golden Eagle
Skunk2

all the brands above make the cam seals for Honda b/f/h seris motors, the skunk2 and golden eagle ones have 3 sealing o rings while as the STR seal has 2 o rings, however if your picky with your colors, STR is red, Skunk2 is a gunmetal, and the golden eagle is a maroon.

all similar but the STR seal you have to get lucky and find one online, a can of formagasket is imparative!!!

I still see STR products all over. Blox makes them for us as well. STR and Blox both offer several colors actually, lol.

color is preference, if say you have a theme going on, you can see it if the valve cover is still on. if you dont know what you looking for youd never see it though, the oem one on my 97 was plastice, that went bye bye REAL fast!

I'll probably get polished, just because it's the cleanest look IMO.

the formagasket oozes out alot when you torque it down, and E you should know my engine is for anything but looks!

i decided im gonna make my 204k engine running as good as a new one, wether it looks pretty or not, inthe end, its whos across the line and whos car is still running!

that and well,
how cool would it be to have a decently fast car and tell them the miles on her and THEN really knock em dead and say, and its the original motor!

If I was you, I'd save for a whole rebuild and keep the engine and see how far you can take the car with the same motor. Just get the sleeves honed, new OEM pistons, maybe JDM-spec 10.6:1, 3 angle valve job, port and polish, all new seals, and call it a day.

Throw a mill job in there and you will love it

mill job?

yeah E im hoping maybe the upgraded OEM cams, considering i have the older, weaker cams as do you. i beleive that the 99-01 had the newer/milder cams? that or try to get my hands on a set of type S cams eh? i wouldnt be looking for the power somuch as the fresher cams.

dude, you guys heard of the 3rd gen with like 800,000 miles on it? going on 900,000? ORIgINAL MOTOR BABY!!!

gives hope to engines like mine!

im actually gonna drop the pan sometime soon and make a new gasket since i think thats leaking. I advise everyone to not trust K&N oil filters, they leak hella bad, im going back to fram!

theres a tutorial on PO but all the pictures were deleted from the dudes photo bucket. haha

EDIT;
oh, has anyone heard anything about aftermarket LSD's? I heard its much more cost effectibe to buy an LSD and drop it in?

Actually, I finally looked it up myself, the cams are the same. Same part number. I think it was a marketing thing tp bump the hp rating up.
Type S cams would be fine. You can use them with your current valvetrain with no problems.
Maybe you just didn't put the filter on right. Did you accidentally leave the o-ring on from the last filter? Never heard anyone else have any problems with K&N. With your engine in it's current state, you can go with the cheaper filters and be fine.
Why do you want an LSD if you aren't doing any kind of racing? Cost really depends on the deals you get. Quaife is good. Someone else makes one for us but I forget who. They're all around $800 though. Might as well buy another LSD tranny and sell the one you got.
