New here....some questions.

I am in the market for a new car.

So I thought I would look at the Preludes.

I really the the Gen. 5's, but the 4th gens are ok too.

I guess my question is.

Which Is better for the money:

I have about 5k to spend.

Also I know I am going to get a biased answer, but please answer the best you can.

Prelude(4th or 5th gen) VS Integra(not sure of the gen)

Thanks!

First welcome to PZ!

...well, a 5 gen is better for a few reasons b.c it's a lot newer than a 4th gen(less miles). Both are great cars, both will give you the desired effect of a huge smile

If you decide to purchase an Integra, you have a few things to consider which are good and bad - For one, they have a huge aftermarket support, lots of goodies, lots of potential..i know, i had one myself

...also consider that they are still top ten in America for most stolen cars...and that they are really a Civic with leather

Whatever your decision, we hope you enjoy your stay here and hope you do get a Lude so you can join our family!

True.

I like having a car that not as many people have.

And no auto for me!! I only let myself drive manuals.

Also, there is a 1999 prelude near me, he wants $4,800, he says the a/c isn't connected, and the cel is on because of a bad 02 sensor. This isn't much to worry about is it? It has 136,xxx miles.

I only have about 5k to spend.

A/C is not connected? ask him why it isn't and make sure to run a carfax/carcheck on that car.

For 5k you can certainly buy a 5th gen Lude.

Good luck!!

I guess it is actually a 1997 not a 1999.

Here it is:

http://denver.craigslist.org/car/712734249.html

EDIT:

Do all of the 5th generations have Vtec?

Also what is the SH model?(I think thats what it is called)

the SH has ATTS active torque transfer system that acts something like an LSD.. it can send more torque to the tire that has grip or the outside tire on hard corners... it is a good option as long as you aren't doing big time engine mods. If you boost the HP too much the ATTS will act funny.

all 5th gens has the h22a4 VTEC engine.

SH's are almost always more money. 5th gens in general are gonna be more money too. If you go the integra route, get a GSR not an LS!! lol I'm a 4th gen owner and bigger fan of them vs. 5th gens. All opinion based tho. I just rebuilt my h23 and currently rebuilding the suspension (ball joints tie rods, struts, etc..) so despite 153,000 miles on the odometer its practically a brand new car mechanically.

The SH would be great fun carving up the canyon. I still advocate the 4th gen... if you get one that has or needs a LSD swap, it should be the superior handling car. It's lighter and with a mild drop you can get that backend to slide around quite nicely. I have been known to take her for a 180 on the old stock suspension as well. (Tegs are fun, but the Lude will give you nicer low and midrange power... at the expense of a few mpg)

I basically spent $1100 for my 92si, drove it for 3 years and decided to upgrade. For about $6000 I did the following, much of which would be optional...

1992 Honda Prelude Si/JDM VTEC Swap*

*Provided by Blueridge Motorsports; 306 Sterling Street, Morganton, NC 28655

Modifications:

Engine:

JDM H22A*
M2B4 Limited Slip Differential*
Koyo 2 Row Aluminum Radiator* w/ stock fans
Stage 1 Competition Clutch*
Custom 3” Short Ram Intake* w/ Kool Blue Cone Filter*
NGK Spark Plugs*
Ceramic 4-2-1 Header*
Custom 2.5" Header Back Exhaust*
Magnaflow High-Flow Cat.
16”L 4”W body Resonator*
Nopi Titanium Muffler*
eCtuned P06/P28* (not included in my $6000 cost... this was $575 for ecu, hardware and chipping, and a full dyno tune... about 200WHP 170WFTLB)

Suspension:

Neuspeed Sport Springs
KYB AGX Adjustable Shocks
SPC front and Rear Camber Kits
Energy Suspension Polyurethane Bushings
Polished Front and Rear Strut Tower Bars*
Stock 15” rim w/ 205-55-15 Yokohama Avid V4s

Find a 5th gen that nice for 7 grand and I will be very surprised, but if you like the styling of the 5th gen, then by all means get one and enjoy the hell out of it. As long as you don't get a lemon you can't really go wrong between the Ludes and the Tegs.... you can always get and old CRX and drop a B18c from a type r in it :).

I'm just not an LS fan. For a DD not lookin for a lot of speed they're good but they really do need some form of power adder to be decently quick... I gathered from his original post that he wasn't really gonna tinker with it too much, nevertheless boost it. But you're right boosted LS>GSR. lol

find what is in your price range. Both 4 and 5 are under 5k. If it's a DD the newer the better go drive them both and get a feel for the car. just don't go out and buy one in a hurry b/c you want a lude try them both first.

Haha...Dang. They went easy on you man. I remember...when I first got my lude...I went to my old Impala SS forum and asked whether I should mod the SS, or the new lude...and they went nuts...Yea, I havent been back since..Assjacks.

You come to a Prelude-specific forum, and ask whether to get one, or an integsuck...HAha...I say Lude. 5g all the way meng.

If you want to go with more then 6-10psi then you need a 4th with a F22 they love the boost. If you just want a lil get a 5th and a JRSC will give you about the most you would want to run on a stock engine.

How much hp would 6-10psi give me to the wheels, along with other bolt ons.

and how much can I get a jrsc for? And do I need to buy anything else with the sc? Does it bolt right on?

SH has what's basically an electronic LSD. Also comes with corteosy lights in the doors, sexier rims, leather shift knob, no annoying brake light in the window (All SH's came with spoilers), painted side skirts (Instead of black vinyl) and the oil filter is in a different location.
You can't chip an SH ECU, so if you plan on that, just get the base 5th gen so you don't have the dead weight of the ATTS unit (What makes an SH special). You can use a piggyback like a VAFC but those are only good with bolt ons like intake, header, exhaust, etc. Put some bigger sway bars, stiffer springs, and lower it some, SH's are addicting if you drive curvy roads but if you plan to turbo or build internals, stay away from them.
