Got a Turbo! Now got a question?!

Hey everyone!

haven't posted in a while, being busy working.

Well got some cool news, got a Garrett t3/t4 rebuilt turbo for a cheap price in a good conditions. The Exhaust side is .48 A/R, and the Intake is .60 A/R.

If I run with a 5.8 PSI spring on the waste gate, as a daily driver with mild racing, will that crack my crank on a stock engine?

Also, the turbo has an oil in-line, then an oil out-line and 2 other wholes?! what are those 2 wholes used for?

Thanks a lot for your help in advance!

the other 2 holes are for water or some other kind of liquid cooling. i believe you'll be fine with 5psi but you might need to up the injectors. and no it wont crack your crank ring lands maybe but no crank lol

That's the only reason I actually asked that question, cuz I read your thread "RIP Turbo Prelude" lol. Were u rippin the lude every day? did u have any engine work done besides the usual turbo stuff (Injectors, fuel pump)... How long did the turbo fun last?

I think it is, cuz I heard a lot of ppl say that the H23 crank is very weak.

Does the H22 crank bolt right up? and can I use the Eagle rods (Made for the H22) with JE pistons (Made for H23) with the h22 crank in the h23 block?

haha I'm only kidding. The ONLY reason my crank cracked in half was from when I blew the oil pump 5,000 miles before boosting it; engines dont like being starved of oil, I can vouch for that.

Stock cranks are actually capable of 600+ hp, they are NOT weak by any means, they just can't handle high RPM's like H22 cranks can. An H23 with H22 crank and rods is kinda dumb tho... its like destroking the H23.

at 5psi you should be fine (you would probably be fine going up to 8 psi) . But I would definitely reccomend larger injectors.

than im kinda scared about the ring glands.. Mine burns oil as it is, when i gun it. If I down shift from 5th to 3rd I leave a big cloud of smoke behind me. but if i drive normally it doesn't smoke.

But before installing the whole thing, prolly will change the head gasket, t-belt, wp, and some other minor stuff.

most of our car will have some smoke when you get on it. When its constantly doing it or it is becoming whitish or bluish in color is when there usualy is a problem. I cant exactly vouch for an h23 but i was running 6 psi on all stock internals on my h22 for a year and i never had any problems. But i also was running it with hondata with a tune sooo thats always a little bit safer.

i'm still in high school with car payments, insurance, and cell phone bill and i can afford turbo and my parents aint buyin nothing for me so its not that bad on the pockets. you just gotta find good stuff at good prices. i was llucky to find someone who peiced together a kit but had to sell it. but as long as you pay to give it a good tune it should be good. cheaping out on the tune is what will cost you in the long run

lol come back when you have a mortgage, groceries, a kid, a wife, internet, cable, health insurance, and every other bill / expense to pay for then let us know how easy it is to scrap the $2-3k to rock the turbo . even when moneys not the problem, convincing the wife that i HAVE to spend the $$ on a turbo is... well... yeah good luck.

haha don't mind me i'm just feeling like an old fart :sour:
