Icon8 GUYZ..... ANOTHER ISSUE

so im having issues with my prelude. its a h22 turbo. its just a stock jdm h22a and its got a full turbo kit on it. im pushing 8.2lbs and its started over heating on me.. not all the time only after about a 35 min drive its starts to overheat. and it wont over heat sitting at idle it cools at idle actually... the car is fully tuned btw... and i put a new thermostat and it still overheating.. cant seem to figure it out.. do you think it could be the ect sensors or the temp sensor in the side of the head??? im gonna bleed it tonight after work. and yes its got plenty of coolant. and do you think it could be the half radiator and slim fan?? any help or suggestions will be help ful and once again thanks guyz..

Re: GUYZ..... ANOTHER ISSUE

You have a turbo H22, and you can't figure out a simple cooling issue? You bought it boosted, didn't you?

Okay so let's start with the basics.
1) are you running a full size or half size radiator?
2) once it starts overheating, does it cool off if you stop and let it idle, or what?
3) does it only overheat while driving, especially at high speeds?
4) when was the water pump changed?

Check your lower radiator hose. They tend to collapse while driving if they're old and soft.

Re: GUYZ..... ANOTHER ISSUE

No..... I'm a buy then builder... I bought the car completely stock and it had a f22b1 with blowed head gasket and I found a jdm h22a and trans with 49xzx miles on it and swapped it and drive it about a year and then I my self boosted it... But it's running half size radiator and it doesn't over heat at idle just when I drive it at normal or high speeds and the water pump hasn't been cause its very low miles I planned on changing it at 100,xxx miles... And ok will do

Re: GUYZ..... ANOTHER ISSUE

Hoses are deff fine... But the car started over heating and I came home. And mad me a wire for the fan to constant run and drove the car while it was hooked up to factory plug. And drove it till it got hot then pulled over and hooked it up to straight wire ad the C&f cooled down... So do I have to small of rad or what?? It's not low on coolant got new thermostat.. And I also figured out that if the gauges says it hot.. But I cut the car off and then back in and the gauges go back to normal and in a few secs its back hot.... So idk

Is your fan operating on it's own, or are you having to force it on?

lulz, "force it on"

Re: GUYZ..... ANOTHER ISSUE

Do you have enough clearance to run a full size? That would be best, but honestly I don't think the radiator is the problem, if you're overheating on the highway. Might also want to check for a faulty radiator cap as well.

Re: GUYZ..... ANOTHER ISSUE

I've head of people running half size radiators on turbo 'ludes before without issue. Also, this sounds like a new issue, not just a persistent thing since you boosted it. There's a problem here.

Re: GUYZ..... ANOTHER ISSUE

Every person I see with turbo is running a half size radiator. I don't think that's your problem. If I were you I would do the water pump and a lower temp thermostat.

I'll see what I can come up with for ya from a few of the guys I work with. They all run dual and triple core half size rads on their turbo boosted ludes. I've not turbo'd mine yet, not sure if I want to on an H23A1.

Re: GUYZ..... ANOTHER ISSUE

Well I thought about the waterpump but then I thought about it... If it was the pump it would overheat alot sooner... But it don't over heat till about 30-45 mins later.. Every one is sayin that cause I'm running more fuel and more air that the coolant is flowing faster and that the cool down time for the coolant in the half rad is not effiecient... So I'm gonna try the xline by mishimoto triple core.. I already lowered the thermostat temp

Didnt neck have this problem with his boosted Prelude? Hopefully he chimes in soon.

I would say upgrade to a full size rad but it looks like you already did that. You should look into water wetter as well, that **** is the bomb.

I can vouch for that. Ran it in my aluminum dual core radiator in my S14. The fans would only come on when the compressor would kick on. Never got hot enough to warrant the fans running unless I sat idling for ages.
