Custom Turbo Setup vs the standard way of doing things

Ok. Normally you have a manifold with the turbo bolted to it directly. I Have an idea. what if i put on a civic radiator, and where the header goes from 4-2 i could cut it thereand run the pipes out to the front fascia on each side of the radiator. have a t28 and my 60 trim both on there. one for each side, and put a small intercooler down in the lower grille. this would enable me to keep the headers and support more air flow. Sound any good to ya'll? I hate to get rid of the headers, and i think id have the most potential like this, compared to the normal setup.

while it sounds like a good idea in your head, im not really sure you really understand the flow characteristics and complications of trying to do what you are suggesting (well, with any success anyways...)

You'd be better off not trying to reinvent the wheel. KISS== Keep it simple STUPID... If you wanna go crazy, consider a remote turbo setup.. Plenty of room under the IM and back near the stock muffler...

Re: Custom Turbo Setup vs the standard way of doing things

Why? Why? Why? I want to quote agent smith right now, I don't understand why. Is it for peace? Is it for love? Do you even know?

Turbos are the sh!t, but what is in the water that makes everyone want a turbo prelude? It's not easy, the motors not meant for it, the people who have done it have broken it down like thousands of times. There are no real shortcuts and one mistake and it's over.

I know you guys have a choice to do whatever with your cars, and as someone that loves a challenge, I'd say go for it. But in complete honesty, if you have 6000 dollars in a bank account, there are better ways to spend the loot.

By the way, put it after the header and make a 3" down pipe off it so you don't need a custom manifold. But that's the least of your problems.

Re: Custom Turbo Setup vs the standard way of doing things

in theory it sounds easy.

when you go try to actually apply your theory (aka, fabricate the manifold(s), downpipes, charge pipes, etc etc) it starts becoming much harder VERY fast, due to dimensions, sizes, space in the engine bay...

not to talk you out of it by any means cuz we love thinking outside the box and seeing stuff that's never been done before.
