what has more potential?

I met someone that is wanting to trade me an rb20det swapped s13 for my g23vtec swapped prelude. I thought about it, but which engine has the most horsepower potential, displacement wins right? or would the rb20 win cause of more cylinders? I dont wanna trade for something that wont be as mean as what i have already. i plan to turbo the lude before summer ends. the rb20det still has the stock turbo on 12psi.

Re: what has more potential?

yeah, considering i have a 60 trim garrett already, but the lude is so close to being ready and the s13 still has everything stock besides the engine. but as far as the engine itself, if the 60 trim turbo was on the g23 couldnt i make more power than with the rb20? or would the increased amount of cylinders increase the power handling of the stock motor?

It's really up to you, but if you're going turbo with that G23, I'd keep it.

are you sure that the g23 internals can handle that much power what turbo brings?

Re: what has more potential?

I could almost guarantee that RB20 will be able to handle more power. I've got a couple of friends with some pretty quick swapped s13/s14s and they have no internal work done whatsoever.

If it was at least the rb25 id say yeah. But being just the 2.0 Id say stay with the lude.

Re: what has more potential?

Even if it's just a 2.0, it still has potential being that it's boosted. My buddy's SR20DET in his S13 is pretty damn quick; 350whp assumed.

Re: what has more potential?

The RB20 is the weaker of the Skyline engines (in terms of power). I don't know, it's up to you man. The RB20 will definitely be cheaper, as it's already a turbo-ready engine; and it'll probably be more reliable.

Re: what has more potential?

what do you mean by pretty quick? Numbers please? and I think this g23 could handle 500-600 for a month or 2 of racing just every other weekend with a good tune. i dont know if the rb would hold that much boost, think it would hold 20+ psi on stock bottom end with a 60 trim?. plus i'd have to buy everything i already bought for the honda to fit the s13 to get it to where the lude is.

Re: what has more potential?

It seems like you've already put a lot of work into your lude, so IMHO, I would keep and keep working on it. It seems like you've done your research and everything...so just do what you feel comfortable doing and what you really want to do.

Let me start by asking what you mean't by "500-600"; if you mean horsepower, then no. Just no. Granted I don't know how much work you've done to your Lude; but if it actually could/does make that much power, why would you even consider trading for a stock RB20 swapped 240? It would take way more than a tune to get anywhere near those numbers...

Anyway, by "pretty quick", he probably mean't 300-350WHP.

Re: what has more potential?

Ive seen plenty of fwd turbo hondas beat rwd/awd cars. Hell Ive even seen them beating bikes. So please dont act like its pointless to boost a fwd car. Theres plenty of ways to get the power down to the ground. Boost by gear is one way that helps tremendously.

Re: what has more potential?

You will do a swap eventually cuz the RB20DET is weaker than the SR20DET and the RB25DETT...
consider the cost of buying the decent RB engine and swapping it plus tuning to have a reliable car and a good power, it's up to you :)

Actually, the RB20DET is a little quicker than the SR20DET; assuming it's not the S15 SR20DET, with 250HP... Also, I'm pretty sure there was no twin-turbo RB25; you were probably thinking of an RB26DETT, found in the Skyline GT-R series.

Yeah, if you run against some heavy rwd pickup

but if theres no weight difference, rwd can use power more efficiently

its obivious that turboed 270hp fwd wins turboed 230hp rwd :D

Re: what has more potential?

heres what I know for a fact. I done beat an rb swapped s13 on slicks by .6 of a second in an eighth with a stock h22 and 75 shot, he was on slicks and i was on streets. Plus you can get a helluva launch if you got your $hit together. I'm not making 500 hp now, but that is the plan. I really do think this f23 block will handle it, remember i'm running f23 bottom end and h22 top end so i've got low compression already. I still have to put the turbo on, i have one but still need a manifold, bigger injectors, map sensor and tune. and the f23 block is dirt cheap to replace, the rb is expensive and rare. but would the rb20 hold 500hp on the stock block? if it would i may trade. if not, then no. does anyone know what the crank collar issue is with these engines?
