mildy inexpensive turbo setup, reliable?

yeah, i know, research.

i bought a godspeed turbo kit (yeah, yeah, ebay) off a buddy brand new for way too cheap to pass up so i was going to throw this setup on my ls hatch, but decided against it. currently have a healthy and stock h22 base 5 speed with 100k. turbo is .50 compressor, .63 exhaust. i want to put new valve seals/piston rings in my h22 before any turbo goes on. my compression is good, i just spit a little oil and that will help with blow by. i plan on running the kit just how it came besides i have a greddy bov and im searching for a used name brand wastegate now.

money really isn't a major issue, im just cheap. if i need something, ill get it. but if it can be done right for cheaper, im going to do that. my plan was to build a h22 and do it right, but my build got to about 7 grand just for the motor, then id need a lsd trans/clutch setup, plus turbo. if im going to spend 10 grand, im going to buy something with an ls1.

im aiming for somewhere in the 280-300hp mark. im just something to keep me busy for a while and make the lude for fun to drive since i got a cbr and the car kind of just sits. i want it still to be very streetable though. im hoping with a smaller turbo, and 12lb fw that it revs pretty quick, i dont want it to fall on its face around 6 or 7k either.

stuff i plan on getting.
competition clutch stage 4 clutch six puck and a 12lb flywheel.
walbro 255.
ge vacuum manifold.
name brand wastegate
boost/oil pressure/afr gauges.

12 psi from what ive heard is about max safe for stock motor, and map sensor so i'd probably just do that.
im thinking 8 psi street, 12psi track.

stuff i need suggestions with.
what kind of boost controller? i like simple and stuff that works well.
dsm blue top 450cc, will they be enough?
stock h22 ecu can be tuned right or do i have to get something else? (will it start on stock ecu and i can make sure everything is ok, then tow to tuner. i dont plan on driving it at all till its tuned.)
i have a apexi safc laying around, will that be any use?
would a lsd be useful or will i be ok with stock 5 speed.

any links on how to tap oil pan?
will tuner adjust vtec/boost? for sure want to lower it to more around 3.5k or so and have full boost a little above that. do they raise rev limiter at all or no good for stock motor.

excuse the noobness to boost and all. just trying to find some help.

Re: mildy inexpensive turbo setup, reliable?

I don't think you'd need a stage 4 clutch for 12 psi, and that hp range. Stage 2 might be able to cut it, and stage 3 would definitely be enough. Also, I read online that with boosted applications you want to have a heavier flywheel, so I'd just resurface your oem flywheel.
5speed with 16lb flywheel = good for boost
6speed with 12 or 8lb flywheel = good for all motor
At least that's what I've learned from reading, haven't seen too many real world applications.

An emanage unit would probably be good for you since you can just plug it in and go since it has a built in map for 6 or 8 psi, then drive it to your tuner and have the maps reworked. DO NOT, drive the car without some kind of engine management.

aaaaand that's about all the help I can offer lol. I'm sure more knowledgable people will chime in and correct whatever misinformation I may have given.

Re: mildy inexpensive turbo setup, reliable?

you will damage a stock H22 motor on 12psi. 9psi max.
you can't tune an obdII ecu. You need a piggyback or standalone to properly run a turbo'd motor.

Re: mildy inexpensive turbo setup, reliable?

if you already have blow by i'd say it'll last a year pushing 8lbs. and you'll be having alot more blue smoke pumping out of your exhaust everytime you wot it. and i was running a 16g. and i assume your kit came with piping, couplings, fmic, downpipe and exhaust manifold?

Found it!

I envy anyone that get this for their car! Lucky stiff!

But I think I'll need to save up for the twin turbo set up!

You could just go on ebay and lookup Holset turbo to get yourself started, then build around it. Homemade kits are usually made from the hx30, hx35, and hx45's. It's a lot of patience, and something not to go cheap on. EVAH
