Tear down and turbo build

got my internals as most of you know, but shops are quoting me 2k for their work..
thats 600 for taking out the motor
600 for the teardown
500 for the dropping in of the equipment
and 300 for the assembly and putting the head and peices together and throwing it all back in my car...
not including port and polish'ing

my friend can do all that but putting the pistons in he doesnt want to deal with, he sticks with D series and b and simpler honda's... think i can have him do everything and bring the head and the rest of the goodies (by truck) to the shop and have them throw it all in and then my friend put my motor back in.. it would save me a lot of cash and time to save up. how would this normally work and what do you think i should do?

i am aware of a warranty and thats why i want a shop to drop the goodies in and assemble it back up for me to drop it in my car, will this still be warrantied? will they do this ? whats your opinions, and whats my options?

no it wouldn't. Its more than likely only warrenteed if the shop gets you the parts and install them.

hmm, well here in NY shops dont have parts and some shops dont even deal with things like turbo charging NA vehicles like in Cali or Florida, its all different here. there is one shop around me that might be able to do it but i will just have to speak with the owners, i know him (has a turbo charged civic making 600whp) kids only 22 years old and has his own dyno YO, ol' mans filthy rich

heres the deal, i work at Radioshack part time( all the hours they can set me up with) and i also go to college durring the summer (to graduate early) so far i have spent about 2k on my setup and i am still in need of a good 1500, this being because i am trying to buy top of the line things, nothing second hand nor cheap so it breaks. i am trying to save as much as i can and the only way thats possible is the labor... i already have a friend who ishelping me put on my setup, he is a mechanic and deals with turbo charging B and D series motors out of a shop. he has a hoist to take the motor out and to place back in and he can also do my clutch and flywheel for cheap, so all i really need to do is place my motor on a truck bed drop it off at a shop and have thm port n polish and drop in my goodies...

all together my setup will cost me 4100 and thats including tuning, but not labor at all and some people say its simple, but if its so simple ill ship someone from PP.com to come over get it done and we can be best buds haha

It's not simple, but not worth shelling out the cash.

My time is worth a few G's.. lol..

Good luck man! Keep us updated with plenty of pics.

oh i see your a mechanic, you probly mentioned it but i just didnt catch it, nah i trust my friends and everything but i want my internals done no matter what, i have seen only 3 or 4 5th gens here and not many 4th's a couple at that, one with a kit on it but stock internals and its a greddy bolt on... junk. i have a goal to set and its high at that, some of my friends have del sols with je internals and it all (he goes to morrisville university for mechanic's) one of the best for automotive so he gets the work done for free but i will see if he will drop mine it himself for cheap. i mean he was dyno'd at 280 with only 6lbs on his setup with more torque than that.. now hes running 18 lbs daily driving, kinda stupid and overkill but hey its his car. my goal is to beat an 03/04 vette no LS7, that would pretty much be impossible for my money set goals for now, as long as i get my first turbo application on and its running strong all ill need to do is upgrade my EMS, injectors, turbo, and intercooler for later... ahh i am soo pumped to boost. ANYone have an electronic boost controller yo ?

how much would i be looking at for a build up? taking apart the motor thats on the ground and dropping them in and assembling it all back together ?

offer still stands anyone who feels like comming and visiting NY ill pay for your plain/train ticket YO and you can build my motor and become GOD in Upstate NY... knowone has a fully build 5th gen here and i know a damn good amount of people, you can even chack car domain... all bolt on's and stock internals , god i need to move to Cali

if your connect is good with your friends, you can go with that. I'm honestly having someone put the turbo kit in mine for the warrenty. (also, i'm stuck in Afghanistan and I can't even touch my engine) Besides, to throw that kinda $$$ around your car, you'd want professional assistance. I know that the mechanic that's going to install your turbo wouldn't mind you HELPING with the installation. Who know, he might even knock the price if you helped rather than him just doing it himself. Besides, whoever does it...you should be there when it happens.

Wouldn't you be at the hospital if your woman was having a baby.
Woman=your car
Baby=turbo

true, but the guy whos putting my kit on and everything is my good friend and is doing it for free, as long as i help him :) ...

he builds civics and integra's all day but no preludes because they are in a shortage around here. i will probly just take out my motor and have it set to a short and bahm have they put the pistons and stuff in it and try to have them warrantee it if not then ill just have them put it in, drive around with the pistons and rods for a good 1000 miles and then throw the kit on, there relly is no wrong way of putting in pistons i am told..

i wonder if you can put in the new pistons and turbo kit at the same time. But not jump on the pedal for a 1000 miles. The rings should set okay...right?

that is pretty average price for assembly for a motor. you can do it your self, it isnt rocket science. what block/sleeves are you running?

i'm in afghanistan right now...i don't think my bosses will let me off(AWOL).

but, if you're going to get sleeves, it's not exactly something you can DIY. unless you got the machine to hone your block and the tools to do it. i'd phuk it up even if i had the equip. you have to send you block out to get the sleeves pounded in check out the darton website and i'm sure they'll have some suggestions. if you live in cali, i don't think it'll be hard. someone locally might be able to do it.

Alright so i just got off the phone with a buddy of mine and he is quoting me 1200 to 1500 dollars for the tear down and build up of my prelude. thats throwing in all my internals, honing it all and then putting it all back together... ill run my internals for a good 1000 miles rockin' out like a civic DX and then throw on my turbo kit and goodlies like that....

Problems:

a. Owe 375 to NYS DMV for 6+ points on my liscence (new law passed 6 months ago)
b. Need to pay seatbelt ticket, $105
c. Need to pay lawyer fees, $250
d. Need to buy stage 4 ACT sprung clutch with lightened flywheel
e. Need to buy turbo downpipe

Good news:
1. My store just closed (Radioshack) and i get my average paycheck x's 3 for closing the store up :)
2. I get normal paycheck as well
3. I got transfered to a store where i will make more cash (commission job)

bahm Deric will be boosting YO, oh and iv gotten all these goodies while attending college full time, and working only 30+ hours... now its summer ill be putting in 35 to 40+ hours in :)
