Views on boosting.

(If you don't want to read all of it read the last 4-5 sentences) About a month ago I bought my 94 Prelude Type S. It has roughly 116k miles on it and I've gotten my RT6 Rox Rims, a spoiler put on, and DEPO headlights (don't like the JDM look rather be unique). After all the looks other than a CF hood and lip kit maybe a drop I've been looking into boosting my car. Been looking around these forums for a while now seems like the majority of the people who attempt FInduction end up not doing it seeing the overall cost. I'm just going to say if cost is no issue on a stock F22a motor my wanted horsepower to reach say roughly 250-300, tq within 15'ish. Just want a quick car off the line, not a drag car or anything. What size turbo would I go with if not wanting to do anymore mod'ing after this hp is reached.(Getting a 300zx this spring break to work on while I'm at automotive school.) Also if someone could through some numbers up and such roughly 1500-2000$ I'm guessing piecing it together myself with the help of some friends. I'm thinking boosting a motor with that many miles isn't a very smart idea just want some experienced people incite on this never boosted a car or swapped a motor but hoping this car will be boosted soon enough. Just throw up your opinion and if your on here to rant about don't boost swap to an h22 please don't post I don't want to hear it overall I'd prefer to just boost this f22. Please don't throw up posts saying to use the search thread I've been on the computer most of the day looking at about every turbo post on here just doesn't seem to me like many people go through with it so most help usually goes nowhere. Just give me suggestions on either to just boost motor as is or better invest money into re-building the motor then throw the turbo on it. And if I were to boost it now without re-building what would be so horrible about it cause the tranny also has the same mileage on it.

Re: Views on boosting.

well i see that your new so i would like to say welcome.
and i actully have the F22 in my prelude to. and from what ive picked up looking around the F22 is really good for number gains if you boost it due to its low comp rate if im not mistakin. ive actully read some guys actully going out and taking a stock turbo off of an eagle talon er somthing like that and meshing them with the engine. but i am by no means and engine master lol i just wanted to put in my lil 2cents. if you do find anymore out you should most def let me know.

Re: Views on boosting.

Just wanted to know if my target hp is around 250 give or take 10 if a t3/t4 turbo will it get me up the with a good tune. If so can someone point me to the right direction just a link of some sort on wear to begin looking (I'm clueless about prices and quality guessing turbonetics is a good one since majority have it.) And if a t3/t4 hybrid won't be able to reach this what king of turbo would if any at all without changing out the engine and sleeving it.

Re: Views on boosting.

To figure out the turbo you need for your power goal:

TurboByGarrett.com - Turbo Tech101

Read all three of the pages (101, 102, 103) and do the math, its not too complicated.

Here is the thread I started a while back, havent had much time to do research so it has kind of died off:

Re: Views on boosting.

Been reading over all the pages on boosting and such so much math involved atmospheric pressure equation getting all my math forumlas for school mixed up but this is more important haha while im still throwing some number up to get the exact such and such general idea of best running turbo and still curious to see if it is stupid of me to boost this motor or what not if it's not bad and it'll last still it's been very well cared for and greatly maintained. Just want to know if I should spend the time in money in rebuilding it but if it's not needed, I'd prefer not to do it so I got more money for the turbo. Let me know your opinions all help is appreciated thanks in advance.

Re: Views on boosting.

do a compression and leakdown test to see what the condition of your motor is and if it's healthy enough for boots.

Re: Views on boosting.

WC Engineering : Compression and Leak Down Testing

Read this it explains each test and what the results mean but numbers for an H22 no clue. Best I got so far here.

it'll vary depending on altitude, tester used, condition of motor, etc. but between 180-220 is normal.
8.5:1~9.5:1 compression: 170-210 psi per cylinder
9.5:1~11:1 compression: 210-275 psi per cylinder

having the highest number possible isn't the most desirable goal. it's to have each cylinder be within 10-15% of each other.
bad: 220-220-75-220
good: 175-175-175-175
