engine bay space

so would a traction bar free up space in the engine bay for a turbo? cos lookin in my engine bay earlier made me think that the engine mount would get in the way.
can u get smaller mounts to free up space?

just on a thinking train....

Re: engine bay space

depends on the manifold/turbo/downpipe combination.

i only had to trim about 1 square inch from my mount to fit the return fitting.

Re: engine bay space

what manifold u running, log? have u kept ps and ac?
i was looking at the explicit traction bars and they seem to have just a bar instead of that massive mount so thought this may free up space.

Re: engine bay space

yup i gotta log (). almost every single log mani is PS and AC compatible, but i deleted PS for other reasons.

if you got the $$ for a traction bar, they are WELL worth the money, as well as baller, and clean up the bay. but they usually aren't needed for a log. other types of mani's SHOULD have a disclaimer about needing to remove the front mount or needing a traction bar to run that manifold.

Re: engine bay space

thing is im quite happy to splash the cash on the traction bar if it allows me to use the manifold i already brought (with out doing much research, slapped wrist!). see im the sorta person that needs to have the thing in my hand and the see the problems for my self then work around them, sure its more expensive but just means i gotta work harder and harder u work the greater the reward!
so anyway i have a tubular manifold, its quite tight bendwise but with the turbo bolted to it it will hit the engine mount for sure, so if a traction bar will correct this then thats whats next on the shoppin list, plus obviously having a traction bar isnt a bad thing. are they tricky to install?

Re: engine bay space

yup there's alotta tubulars that need trax bars. pics of said mani??
and have you tried flipping the turbo around 180 so the compressor is on the opposite side? sometimes if your very lucky this is an easy fix to FMM clearance issues.

if your installing all the turbo stuff yourself, i have faith that you'll be able to install the t-bar as well

Re: engine bay space

i muddle through things mate, im no mechanic im a sparky by trade! but i love working on my own car, just like learning, more u do the more u learn! also if u build it all yourself then when u stand back and look at it it has a greater sense of achievement (plus im a tight fisted bastard!)
i dont have any pics of it on this pc, i will try and find the link to where i brought it.
i did try flipping it but it just hit other stuff so i'm on the thinking of buying a t-bar. i havent trying installing anything yet just trying to see problems before i take car apart and realise i need more bits, esp being in the uk where its harder to get performance bits, seem u americans love preludes!!!

i used to own a impreza and i had the engine out that countless times, i do the work with my old man who is also by no means a mechanic but we timed how long it took to get the engine out my impreza and our fastest was 12 mins from once the car was jacked up! - that was completely off topic so .... moving on.....
