Boosting my prelude soon

So i picked up a 16g evo turbo today to go along with my 2g eclipse exhaust mani. Since i have my h23 in the car rite now the manifold will fit with some modification. I also have the injectors dsm 450's, but i have a couple questions about some stuff since it will be my first time boosting my car. I'm gonna run around 7 psi and keep it as safe as i can till im finished building my frank engine. My questions are has anyone been able to boost up to 7psi with the stock fuel pump or should i just get a 255. Also can the stock fuel rail be modified for a return line and if any what issues have people ran into with boosting the preludes. I know u guys are gonna ask for compression test but im gonna go ahead and replace the rod bearings and rings and properly break them in before i boost.

Re: Boosting my prelude soon

you NEEEEDD a fuel pump, no question. its only $100 after all.

and you don't need a fuel return line either.

Re: Boosting my prelude soon

Yea i figured i would need the pump and prob a regulator too, my biggest concern is gonna be tuning cause i don't have alot of money so idk if i want to get hondata because i'm gonna end up switching to vtech ecm when my other engine is done.

Re: Boosting my prelude soon

if you don't have alotta money, boots isn't for you. ALWAYS plan for the unexpected, because something WILL go wrong, guaranteed.

you don't necessarily need a hondata system, but a very reliable, and cost-efficient alternative is a chipped ecu w/ crome, ectune, etc., AND HAVING IT TUNED!!!!! this is by the far the most important aspect of any build, it's what makes or breaks motors and is NOT where you wanna cheap out.
chipped ECU = $75, dynotune = $500

you don't need a FPR either.

and don't worry about needing a specific ECU thats also compatible with vtec right now cuz once you drop an H22 in, your gonna need an entireee new setup anyway, since the DSM mani's don't bolt onto them.

Re: Boosting my prelude soon

Yea i know the dsm stuff wont work on the h22 head but what im saying is most of my money is being concentrated on building my engine and im gonna boost the h23 so that i have some experiance when i have the built engine in. Fixing any problems that happen isn't gonna be a problem for me cause i already have double everything in engine parts and can fix or rebuild anything on my car so that im not worried about. I know how it's gonna be cause most of my friends are already boosted and things happen all the time. So i already have a p28 chipped but if i want to get the hondata i want to do it once and i don't know if i will be able to use it on both engines and that is what i'm thinking when it comes down to the money issues.

Re: Boosting my prelude soon

good, as long as you know what your getting yourself into, and you are willing to fix it yourself. and its even better if you gotta buncha-boots-buddies as well!

well the p28 IS a vtec ECU, which is good. i'm just not sure if you can run an H23 on it, hopefully someone w/ more ECU-knowledge will confirm/deny.

Re: Boosting my prelude soon

Well im running it on my car now and its tuned for a h22, i have the check engine light on of course for unplugged vtec but the car runs fine and has never given me any issues. I make sure i plug in the stock ecm every once in a while to make sure there are no codes.

Re: Boosting my prelude soon

ok update on my build, i had to put another engine in my car yet again so i had to put the turbo on hold. good news is i picked up a jdm f22b with computer, harness, tranny and intercooler and piping for just 550. i put it in and it runs good. now i just have to save up a little bit longer because that cost me some of my turboing money, so i am going to be turboing soon i have almost every part i need besides a walbro 255,bov, and oil line set up, and now i have to find a chipped ecu for a f22b.
