Turbo's for 3rd gens, still around?

Hey, I was wondering if they still made Turbo kits for my 90 Prelude with a B20A5 engine, and an estimate of the cost,
thanks a lot

Tom.

To be honest with you, I don't think they do. I'll do some searching for you though. Wait for prelude13 to check this out, he's our 3rd gen guru. I'll keep searching till then.

See if you find anything here...

If that doesn't help, try www.chacha.com the have guided searches where you have some professional internet surfer helping you. it's free and like those scrubbing bubbles, they do the searching so you don't have to! (but you can if you want)

I guess all I really have to find is turbo manifold thatll fit my Lude, then just get the appropriate turbo for that.

Customizing your own kit can save you some money in the end if you're careful. Justmake sure you do your research to make sure everything will work properly.

Yea thats what I was thinking too, but the problem is I can get the Turbo and manifold, but then I have no clue what to do after that.

Also i was wondering, it would cost about 3000$ for a good re-build and everything, that way i have a way better chance of my engine not exploding in my face, but out of these 3 choices what would be the best:

Leave it, use less PSI.
Re-Build it
Swap (Preferably for a B20A1).

It all depends on what you're looking for. Unless you do all the work yourself, you can just about buy a new motor for what it cost to get it rebuilt.

If you do boost, I reccomend building internals anyway. It will cost a lot, but your engine will thank you. You would probably have to get a custom manifold built, which in the end, if done correctly, could also give you a few extra horsies. Look around on www.cardomain.com at the 3rd gens. I know theres a good many boosted ones on there.

Awsome thanks
I'm really gonna take a hard look around for a B20A1 that I could swap onto my car, I'm guessing I should just go to the autowreckers??

Okay, you want to turbo your b20a5?
Good.
Did you know that turboing a b20a5 @ 7PSI will double it's HP & TQ?
See, the b20a5 was supposed to be turboed from the factory.
The b20a motor was a direct descendant from Honda's v6 Turbo motors...back in the early 80's. Trust me on that.
Here, contact LSD Motor sports.
They seem to the be the ONLY company who cares for 3rd gen Preludes:
http://store.lsdmotorsports.com/merc...ore_Code=LSD01

Call them. They have custom turbo manifolds for out unique motors.
Now, OBD0 - OBDI. That you need a conversion harness, not that hard.
Check your compression on your motor before you think about anything else. Usually, b20a motors can safely run 7-8PSI for YEARS without blowing up. Thanks Bobnova.
So the next time some one says, BAHHH h23 is better for turbo, tell them to drive their spaceship to the moon.

As for the charge pipes, you can surely look on Ebay.
For your fuel and tuning, depending on how serious you are(Injectors intercooler size etc etc.), you can get by with an SAFC.
Good luck on your turbo build.
This isn't like the good old days when a person named, "LUDESPEED" used to make bolt on turbo kits for the ba4.
...yes, we are a dying bunch.

As for the b20a1, that's not for our cars. That's for a 2nd gen Prelude/3rd gen Accords.
Your choice motor to TURBO is the b20a5/JDM b20a(which is basically the same as your current motor).

GOOD SITE1!!!!! but t3/t04 for 520??? to expansive... jsut get the manifold from there and the wastegate. make sure you buy a good WASTEGATE other wise the boost will just spike up on you whenever u dont look at ur boost gauge. other piping all you need is like 3 U pipes and buncha clamps. and you said you know all the mechanics... lot more easier that way!!! have fun with your BOOST PROJECT!!!! I love boost lol Im building one my self. pics also.

ps- you need manifold, turbo, waste gate, just a small intercooler, blow off valve, stainless steel oil line, 450injectors, fittings, (2.25 diameter)3 U pipes, custom downpipe, boost gauge, flanges, and last TUNE IT. Oh and you need to know some1 who will tap the Oil pan for you for the oil lines.

Amazing post Prelude13, thanks! and thanks a ton for your post 95h22a1turbo, I know all the mechanics and it does help, one of them will tap the Oil Pan line for me no problem, this one mechanic has worked on my car, and done a Engine swap for my cousins prelude, he enjoys it.
Just one question, whats the custom downpipe??
Wow, only 7PSI will double the HP and TQ? Amazing. Thanks a lot for that site, I'll definately check it out.
So basically as long as im smart with my turbo (not redlining it with 15PSI all day) I could have my engine last a couple years without re-building it first?? Thats what I got out of that.

Thanks a ton for your help

Tom.

oh no problem. ok, bolt on turbo kit will get you 75hp off the line witout tuning anything. after tuning you could gain extra 10 or mayb extra 40 you never know... tuning takes alot of time man. custom downpipe... when u put a turbo set up in a 3rd gens... its not that much of a room of there.. so u gonna have to make it custom bend... and custom fit. and fabricate a little bit.

Well, check compression, do a leak down test, do all the neccessary steps to see how a turbine will fair up with your stock motor.
But yes, it will double it's HP on 7PSI safely for years.
The design of the b20a motor is suited, plus the b20a5 has iron sleeves compared the b21's FRM madness...FRM:Fiber reinforced material

...im gonna show you who Tonybaker is.
Honda's dont run with Mustang Cobras, but Mr.Baker does. :smirk:
He's at 400HP on a b20a motor, and some other cool things like laughing gas + methanol.

that prelude look like have gt32 or 35 mayb nice build. but did you see the downpipe?? it was like 2inch diameter. that is what im excatly talking about. you cant run so big downpipes on any preludes some reason... thats why u need to fabricate if you wanna run 3 inch down pipe...

ps= that will never happen to me in cple of months let you know all of you in PZ... h22 full built and aebs sleeve w/ 25psi daily driver... that will never happen :-) and mayb 30shot of nos too. no 300zx or cobras....... :-) in especially in a civic coupe.
