Smokes when letting off after boost

Son's car started smoking today. It only does it in 4-5th gears when he lets off after boost. White smoke, smells like oil. He said it did it before when a return hose issue caused a build up of oil in the turbo. We changed the return line tonight to be on the safe side and to address a heat issue with the hose. Still smokes when he lets off the gas. Car runs fine, pulls hard no smoke any other time.

ur over oiling the turbo. its not the return line you need to install a oil pressure restrictor on the oil feed line, the turbo will smoke when it hits high boost, oils blowing through the seals. i will have to find the site where i ordered mine from.

x2. Get an oil restrictor. Shouldn't be too expensive for it. Does he have an oil PSI gauge in the car? Honda's typically run higher oil pressures, and that's not what a turbo wants.
Hopefully the seals aren't too far gone. Put the restrictor on, and hopefully the smoking will stop. If it doesn't stop it...odds are the seals are done for. But the restrictor will help the issue regardless.

Here's one I found... I know somewhere has a feed flange for the turbo with the restrictor built it. But this one will do. Just don't completely stop the oil flow to the turbo, because that's just as bad as over-oiling. I remember reading somewhere that turbo's only need like 15-20psi of oil pressure, and a good drain. Typically honda's run above 50psi during cruising. Higher RPMs are gonna make more oil pressure

Problem was a bad PCV valve.

LOL. first off .. you would only need an oil restrictor if you are running a ball bearing turbo. do you know even what turbo this guy is running??? the regular oil cooled one doesnt need a restrictor. as long as you run a -4an or -6an steel braided line you wouldnt "over oil the turbo". even if it was over oiling he would see smoke 80% of the time was running and warmed up.

^ I will agree to disagree with you. Since it wasnt even the OP's issue, but i am running a 16g DSM oil cooled turbo, I also am running a -4 line as well i was smoking the exact sameway bought a restrictor from stealthmode, problem was fixed. That is all i can say. Glad that everything was fixed.

Re: Smokes when letting off after boost

^okay so your running a -4an feed... whats size return?? they could also be the issure.. if you dont have a big enough return or if it is kinked... it would cause some oil to build in the turbo and smoke a little bit. for example anything from -8an and up is best.
