Top 3 things to monitor on your turbo

This isn't a recommendation, it's a thread that asks: What you think are the TOP 3 gauges are nessessary to consistantly monitor when you have a turbo.

1)EGT(Exhaust Gas Temp)
2)Oil/Water Temp
3)Air/Fuel Mixture
4)Boost
5)Volts
6)VAC
7)Oil Pressure
8)Fuel Pressure
9)Slut finder/locator/rating gauge (i wish they made those)

Tell me what you think are the top 3 that should be monitored consistantly.

1.) BOOST Gauge
2.) Oil pressure gauge
3.) palm pilot or pocket PC plugged into ecu running a warning program that actually gives you a real time air/fuel ratio mixture along with other engine diagnostics. Once you see a drop in those graphs you shut it down.

*Air/fuel gauge doesn't do nothing but put on a light show. by the time you realize that your air/fuel is off it's too late.

yea, topendlude ur def right about pocket pc. but everyone who have turbo in their car have safc, vafc, chrom or hondata even aem. so basically u really dont need pocket pc uknow? air fuel gauge u could at least know if your car is runnin lean or rich. by the way egt gauge is for show. recommandation on a gauges i'll say boost, air fuel and oil. turbo cars burn oil well every car burn oil. but my self only have boost gauge. cuz i check oil everyday plus i have the labtop on me everyday so i know if my car is runnin rich or lean.

EGT
Boost
A/F Ratio

Oil pressure and water temp is already on the car. So this seems like a good set up.

haha i dunno.. the boost gauge alone, popping up and down is cool enough for the cool kids...

get them all why not?? you just spent 2 grand on a turbo might as well spend the extra coin on gauges. nah i would say boost egt oil pressure. slut gauges are free dont let someone charge you for one of those. I got like three of them they add about 10 whp apiece, almost as much as my stickers.

i doubt honda's gonna make a light that comes on that goes "you got so little oil, your car's gonna die in 5...4....3...2....1."

doesn't oil pressure depend on so many things? the heat? altitude? all that jazz? i don't think a gauge can accurately tell you oil pressure to 5 degrees.. i dunno

my Z had a stock oil pressure gauge... it was pretty pointless... it's basically you have pressure.. or you don't *shrug*

yea, it's nice to have... but it's not in my top 3

the same can be said for any gauges you install really

in fact i just got a new boost gauge last week because my other one developed a leak.

the question in this thread was what gauges would you get... my answer stands. and in my opinion if your stock oil light comes on, you probably have bigger problems than not having an oil pressure gauge (yes i know, it could have been avoided if you had the gauge... possibly).

i worked for a honda shop for 4 years. this is what i learned : no matter what, the unexpected can and will happen.

i've seen cars come off the trucks from the factory... with dead motors. less than 6 miles on them. **** happens. honestly the best thing to do to prepare for that and to try to prevent it is toss as much money into your car as you can, right? i'm not saying a turbo makes it more reliable... but a better radiator, oil cooler, sensors, gauges, warning lights. but then, not all of us have the finances for that... so we do with what we go. i know my car. i know what problems are more likely to develop. sudden oil leak isnt on that list... well, not far enough up on it. if i have extra cash laying around and i got everything else i need, then i'll invest in the extra stuff.

not trying to start a flame war or anything. just my .02
