B series tranny stronger?

I have an h22 w/ an h23 transmission but the transmission is in rough shape and needs re-built... Im planin on BOOSTIN' my prelude and i have been told that u can buy a kit to put a B series transmission on the h22 and it would b stronger and i need somethin that can work well with 350-400hp... so my question is should i buy the kit for the B series or should i jus rebuild my h23 transmission.... or should i jus try to find a h22 transmission lol.... And also if anyone could tell me wat differences i would notice with the B series transmission that would b great Thanx

Ps: Im not tryin to b a smart a$$ by spellin boostin in all caps but i couldnt figure out which section to put this thread in and its the only way i could relate it to the forced induction section and i know some of u get tired of seein the same questions that are answerd in another section :P.... So if its already been answered im sorry in advance lol

Re: B series tranny stronger?

its called the H2B swap: H22 engine to a B series tranny. they're only made for civic and integra applications where they want OUR motors in their cars, but keeping their trannies. unless you feel like shelling out alottttaaa time and money into custom mounts for this thing, its not gonna happen.

since you plan on boostin, the F22 tranny would be the ideal one for you to get since it has the longest gear ratio's so you'll stay in boost longer. H22's have the shortest gearing, ideal for the 1/4 mile, and H23's are in between the two.
there is no BETTER/BEST tranny for you to get, its all about what you want, and what you'll be using the car for.

Re: B series tranny stronger?

buying an lsd would be best to be put in when/if you rebuild your h23 tranny or import h22 lsd tranny might not be cheapest but definitely easiest

I like the f22 idea for boost... you will prob appreciate the mpgs too...

the h23 and h22 trannies are similar... the jdm h22 has lower 1st-3rd gear and higher 4th and 5th than an h23... and the usdm h22a1 had overall lower gearing.

if you want LSD, I would use an aftermarket one as the m2b4 might not like that much power... maybe consider a rebuild of the h23 with stronger parts? more expensive than a f tranny I'm sure...

Re: B series tranny stronger?

The f22 dosnt really apeal to me that much mainly because i want my prelude to perform at its best on the 1/4 mile and mpgs arnt really a problem for me YET lol im sure if things keep goin the way they are tho the F series tranny would b a wise decision.... but i also want it to do fairly well on the interstate so based on the feedback i have gotten the re-build of the h23 tranny seems to b wat i need.... but will there b a large difference between the h22 and h23 on the 1/4 mile?

Re: B series tranny stronger?

well if you want 1/4 mile time then h22 tranny is the way to go. shorter gears get you goin faster

Re: B series tranny stronger?

ya 1/4 mile is my biggest goal but i also want it to do fairly decent on top end for the interstate.... so it seems like the h23 transmission is the happy place in the middle lol between the h22 and f series... or should i jus pick either 1/4 mile or top end and stick with it?... is there a happy place in the middle lol?

Re: B series tranny stronger?

but wouldn't the f22 be better for 1/4 mile since it keeps you in boost longer?

Re: B series tranny stronger?

It's longer gears aren't good for the quarter. Drag racing is all about accellerating as much as possible in as little time as possible. And 1320 feet is very little time. Ideally for drag racing, you want short enough gears so that you are at very top of your power curve in top gear just as you cross the finish line. And you can't do that with long gears.

listen man... look at the chart... the usdm h22 is the shortest ratios and will use more gas and have lower top speed...

the jdm h22a is just like the usdm through 3rd gear (GREAT FOR 1/4 mile... better than h23a1) and 4th and 5th are higher in the jdm than in the either usdm tranny (meaning that you get that higher top speed and mpgs you want)...

so if you can afford it, get the jdm h22a tranny... it is your "happy place in the middle"...

good luck!:thrasher:
