Thinking to go turbo

Ok fellas, My friend had a srt-4 and thats the car i learned how to drive stick on. Then i got my lude. Although i love the lude very much, its just not as powerfull as the srt. I was wondering if i should do a turbo set-up in the lude or sell and buy a turbo car. not necessarily a srt but something in that rank. what do u all think.
I dont really have any money right now. I want to go turbo by next year if i commit. But that entails a bunch of work because i still have stock practically everuything. So no exhuast, no intake, no nothing. So that will run a big bill. And i ahve school to worry about. So i can probably rack up about 2 grand. should i sell my lude when i ahve that mony and find a turbo'd car. Or should i try to salvage money in the following year and then go turbo.
Which turbo if i decide to keep the lude should i get that will get me closest to the power of the srt-4 w/ stage 1 turbo.

Im feeling a need for speed.

Re: Thinking to go turbo

Turbo the prelude. It might cost a bit but at the end its still cheaper then going and buying a damn neon. I say do a greddy 18g turbo kit when you get the money and put that on your car,Tial or greddy rs bov,38mm tial wastegate,500+ injectors,s300,3" exhaust all the way back, custom made piping, dont be cheap spend plenty of money on good tuning.[Yes I know i left alot out im just giving you some starts.]

Also if you have any plan on turbo'n your going to have to build that bottom end.

So basically your looking at more around 3-6k depending on all the ways you go.

Re: Thinking to go turbo

It'll take a year of research alone to know what you need to do it right. If you want to randomly buy parts and waste money and still not get the desired result only to have the engine blow up shortly after, then be my guest.
With $2000, you can get a nice turbo and the exhaust itself.
So you may want into a different approach for power or a different car entirely.
Just my thoughts.

Re: Thinking to go turbo

Yeah 2g isn't gonna really get you anywhere man. Some say you can "safely" run 6-7 pounds of boost on a stock H22, and I looked into that, just for all the parts for the turbo setup (minus exhaust, injectors, fuel pump, stuff like that) I was already looking at like $4200. It's not cheap, save some money, do LOTS of research while you're saving it up, and by the time you do get 5-6 grand for this, you will be more well-versed and much more ready to tackle this. Just my .02

Re: Thinking to go turbo

My best advice is to save, save, save. And while you save, do your homework. There's new methods and discoveries being made on these cars all the time, even 7 years after the last one was produced. You can never learn too much about anything.
Good luck.

Re: Thinking to go turbo

This is true man. I researched this for a good 3 months straight non-stop, had all my parts picked out and everything. I eventually decided not to do it, not because of money or because I'm lazy. I just don't feel like wrenching on it ALL the time which seems to be the case with a lot of people who have turbo'd cars. On top of that, I live in an area with extreme climate changes, ****, it went from like 88 one day to 48 the next day. That's not somethin' I feel like messing around with all the time. LOTS of homework to be done my friend, if you're really into it though, just make sure you know your **** before you drop like 6 g's on it. 1% Inspiration, 99% Perspiration. Or somethin' like that lol.

Re: Thinking to go turbo

As what's been said before - it's all about researching EVERYTHING possible before even bothering with buying parts and throwing your money around.

So far I'm on 4 months of research and I am just about halfway done with my list - I am still struggling to find a good turbo tho...even that turbo calc. thread i posted isn't helping me that much, lol....

Just because Preludes are sexy and occasionally just look slutty, showing off their curves and large front mount intercooler, that's no reason to go out and force yourself on one. You just need to be smooth in order to get in, then you can start banging away!

I'm stationed in Washington DC and we have the "Defence Intelligence Agency" here on my base. There's a civilian guy who works there, easily making 6 figures, who drives a red '92 lude. I would do it too. My lude would be f*cking ridiculous by now...lol

Re: Thinking to go turbo

I was workin on high school budget and afforded a whole kit, i got a good deal on alot of stuff though, rebuilt super60 t3 for $100 bucks!!! you just gotta look around. but it can be done. I never got around to puttin it on though cuz now i'm in college and don't have the time or money for it. lol. so if your gonna do it, do it before college or theres a good chance it'll be put off til u graduate. as for graduating and keepin the lude, i'm going into engineering and best believe i'm buying another lude and making her oh so purty!! but if you wanna get an early start on some parts for a good price, i'm selling my kit, didn't have time now i'm in college. they're all quality parts though, i didn't cheap out on anything and i spent alot of time getting everything
