Re: Turbo parts list, feedback

okay well here is my input.... ive tried some of these parts and some you dont need....

dont need cams... turbo is ran best w/ stock cams.
do remove balancer shafts... kaizenspeed.com balancer shaft elim kit 100.00??
tial 60mm TOO BIG... go w/ a 38 - 40 MAX
tial bov ... no way... hks ssq bov 200- plus shipping sounds way better and works just as well
HONDATA S300... your gonna need a p28 ecu for it...100- off the street
and instead of using the blitz crap (sorry they suck) hondata offers a boost control selonoid... (good for setting boost settings PER GEAR ex 9psi in 1st 13psi in 2nd full boost third and so on)
also a hondata 4bar map sensor ithink is 100- bolts up to stock location works better then gm 3 bar etc.

some of your prices sound kinda off im assuming your not including some things... like darton sleeves installed is like 1200- thats including shipping and stuff....
and the ram horns LOOK sick but some arent as practical do to changing oil lines etc.
well good luck and lemme know if you have any other ???

Re: Turbo parts list, feedback

This is very helpful, I am at the same point as you with finding prices of my build, and while looking at yours I see that we are kinda going for the same thing - The only real difference is that I'm going for Apexi for my electronics, and I'm going with 850cc injectors. I talked to a Turbo guru and said I was looking to make around 450-500 and he said 850cc at the least for injectors would be what I need.

just out of curiousity - did you mean DARTON sleeves?

Are you gonna be getting any machining done too? I am going to Gopher engines next week for school and they do all the machine work, I was gonna get pricing from them for estimates, if your interested i can let you know what they tell me

kaos what apexi electronics??? if your shooting for 400 + you need a good standalone. neptune is one of the best tunable standalones but next from what all my research and experience is hondata. I just dont want you guys wasting your money like i did when i first went turbo.

Re: Turbo parts list, feedback

Sorry, I meant electronics from Apexi as in Boost Controller and Turbo Timer, but this was before I heard about that Hondata one you were talking about up there...

Apexi has always been really good to me, and my friends that have turbo cars that have Apexi have never had issues either. HKS is a different story, my buddy got one from them for his MR2 and it is fukkin his sh!t up big time - it is not cool at all.

Re: Turbo parts list, feedback

I agree completely, and I plan on using them in this build for sure - but for me money will not be an issue as this will be my super project car and I am not skimping out on anything.

After I make my last college payment this spring I am opening a savings account JUST FOR THE CAR - when it get's to around $13,000 I am pulling the engine - sending it out to do head work and machining, then getting it back on an engine stand, cleaning it, replacing all the parts, upgrading everything and putting the turbo on there, then taking it off to a shop to get dynoed and tuned.

Re: Turbo parts list, feedback

I don't understand why ram horns are bad, for replacing the oil lines? wouldn't it just be easier to take the ram horns off to replace the oil feed line

Why is blitz bad? by the sounds of their electronics they have a lot of cool features, although I don't have many friends that use them.

Yes i did mean Darton sleeves, im just getting my engine block cleaned and sleeved and built from head to toe, would cams be stable in my engine, they won't break?

I've heard that HOndata makes that boost thing, where boost changes per gear, but what if you want full boost right off the bat, then it's not soo good..

Re: Turbo parts list, feedback

Cams will always be stable in an engine provided you torque the caps down to spec and make sure all the gears mesh and the timing is correct

And having full boost right off the bat may SOUND good, but it isn't, you don't really want to have full boost right away (about 5200-5500 is where I want full boost for example) but you want your boost to kick in around 2500-3000.

I just made a thread in the Forced induction section with a turbo calculator and you can type in everything you want and it shows the turbo maps and which one will work best for your needs - it is a great tool to have and use so be sure to check that out

Re: Turbo parts list, feedback

Yeah, but i've heard there are boost controllers with presets, for example you can have a preset for daily driving with low fuel consumption, and others for medium, and other for racing.

Which company makes this.?

Re: Turbo parts list, feedback

well see theres my point. if you use the hondata boost controller you can have many settings of boost...and use your own laptop to change it on the fly w/ the hondata s300.
as for full boost in low gears.... IT SUCKS>.. for example my car is FAST.... when it hooks. cars i know i can beat end up starting out soooo much better then me because im trying to get traction....

but soon as it does... WOW>>>> and yea ... getting new tires every couple of months SUCKS. (working on an affordable traction bar testing it out as we speak i ll let you guys know if it works out)

Re: Turbo parts list, feedback

id suggest this manifold cause it has shorter runners which equals quicker spool (http://www.lovefab.com/html/h_minimeeq.html) also if you want the gt35r go with the HTAGT35r heres the linkhttp://store.forcedperformance.net/m..._Code=Turbo-FPand dont forget the most important thing the TUNE!!!
