You have GOT to be kidding me

I was driving along today, not racing, or even driving fast (babying my slowly dieing clutch) when the engine starts knocking like crazy... i shoved it in neutral and shut it off and pulled off the side of the road... I pull the hood and smoke is billowing out from under the hood... I called and had my dad come and drag me home... Idk what happened internally (yet)... but i've lost compression on 2 cylinders... so im guessing something happened that resulted in a cracked head.... if so, my turbo build is gonna be... um... post poned until further notice... I've been havin major problems with my little car lately (not really major, but a very high amount of smallish problems)... but it is about to roll over to 250,000 miles... so it happens... I'll let u guys know if Im gonna fix my F... or if I end up following the crowd and ordering a H22....

Thanks for reading,
Marshall

Re: You have GOT to be kidding me

/\ already did a compression test... got like 0 on 2 cylinders... and if I build the F... ill be going with a t3/t4 turbo..... if I go with the H it'll just be stock... my new goal with the car is to out run a 05 Cobalt SS lol

Re: You have GOT to be kidding me

i guess its time for you and the mad scientist to rip apart the block and replace the piston rings you fried lol

for how much the h22 cost to import you could probly rebuild it for less. (if the block and head is ok) look into how much it would cost to rebuild it, depending on what is wrong

Re: You have GOT to be kidding me

do a compression leakdown test and see where its coming out.. you said your compression is zero so if you pump air into it and it comes out the intake.. intake valve, tail pipe exhaust valve, dipstick rings, and the radiator could be cracked head cracked block or blown head gasket

Re: You have GOT to be kidding me

hahaha,
because technically nothing went out of wack really, you just burned some rings, which HOPEFULLY means everything else is still okay - relatively speaking anyway.

thats b.c they are not the greatest basis for an n/a engine. thats what an h22 is for why not just stick to boost man... you need to spin the wheel and stick with an idea.

Re: You have GOT to be kidding me

if it has low compression in two cylinders next to each other (ie. 2 and 3 or 3 and 4 or 1 and 2) it is a head gasket and will require you to resurface the head

Re: You have GOT to be kidding me

my buddys got a f22 beasted up a lil. hes running about 190 hp to the wheels on a ll n/a. I know he has it bored and someother dtuff but not off the top of my head. BUT! my h22 still beats him :) lol
It would be pretty cool to see some other people mess with the f22 though. Its still a power house depending on how u do it.

Re: You have GOT to be kidding me

why not think of going the h23 route if the F is really messed up?

It could be a simple(ish) fix. Possibly head gasket. Hopefully there isn't a whole in the motor.

If your car started to making a knocking sound loud enough for you to pull over and shut the car off, I'd take a look at the bearings in the bottom end

A stock H22 won't outrun a Cobalt SS, sorry to say.

No it won't. I've raced 2. The first one got a good jump on me from a roll, and was only inching away from the 2.5 car lead it pulled on me in the first few seconds of the race. I couldn't catch her. (yes it was a girl)

The second one just str8 up left me in the dust. We dropped gears, and went on 3 honks, and all I saw was the spoiler. They're pretty quick

A stock h22 won't outrun a cobalt SS, but a modded one with for sure, especially if it had the same boost level...
