anyone interested in diy led guages?

i found this picture on preludepower, and thought that i could do this, but better, and save people who may want to do an LED conversion, but not want to spend much money.

if any other luders are interested, i will make a DIY on how to do the conversion yourself, and could sell the materials needed to make them.

I was just thinking about doing this earlier today on my 4th Gen. A DIY would be great.

Re: anyone interested in diy led guages?

awesome. i have a 5th gen, so the internals will look a little different, but the wiring should be the same. the materials needed come in 5 meter rolls, and i definately won't need that much, but could sell it once i get the diy up.

i will be ordering white for myself, if there are any other colors people want, just let me know, or you could buy them yourself.

I got about 10 ft of white strip leds off my old bike that I'll use. But the wiring is where I'll need the DIY.

Re: anyone interested in diy led guages?

I was actually planning on this as my next project:

I don't know if pulling the needles off is a good idea.. Is it possible to get the lights in there without having to touch the needles? How would we remove the bezel? If there is then I'm for sure down to do this.

Re: anyone interested in diy led guages?

Removing the needle will ruin the calibration of the gauges. If theyre like my 4g gauges u should be able to remove them without taking the needle off

Re: anyone interested in diy led guages?

yes you can remove them without taking the needles off.

here is a pic from the same thread that has the guages on it

when you remove the plastic clear part (clips around the edges) the black part around the guages is secured the same way and just clips on the white part. i have had my cluster apart twice now, once for fixing the needle, and once for painting the bezels silver. it is not difficult. i won't be able to get lights for about a month, but once i have them i will explain in depth how to do all of it.
