What's up with these "gauges"?

In my newly purchased Prelude, the gauges are a pretty light blue, Mugen until you turn on the lights. Ugh, then it looks like glued on construction paper, and you'll see on the close-up of the fuel gauge you can see the glue. I switched out to white LEDS, which looks better, but still pretty cheap looking to me. Any ideas or recommendations?

Re: What's up with these "gauges"?

It's paper, I'm sure of it, and that's why its so grainy looking. I'm leery of replacing it because I'm afraid to break something.

Re: What's up with these "gauges"?

Woah I had the same deal in one of my cars, I gues they made a copy of some gauges on a copier and tried to use them. they were on blue paper. Looked really good in the day, but looked just like that at night.

So we're all agreed it's paper, and ugly. I run a parts store, but I have no clue where to start to replace this grossness. Dealer? Do you recommend somewhere online?

Try and get one off of someone parting their car. The dealer will make you buy the entire cluster for a stupid amount of money. More than likely so will someone parting their lude, but it'll at least be cheaper. Then you could just use the cluster as a donor for the gauges. Be forewarned, know without a doubt wtf you are doing before you attempt to pull your needles. Also, as a tip, cluster are usually one of the first things sold when a lude goes up for parts. So this means you might have to do a bit of hawking on pp.com, po.com and here. Good luck, Previous owners suck balls.

Re: What's up with these "gauges"?

I'm a pretty hands on gal, (I just changed the timing belt/water pump myself) mechanically, but I don't think this is something I'll do myself. Luckily, I have connects with all the local salvage yards, and they've got no prob pulling parts for me nationwide, so I'll put the word out that I'm looking.

Re: What's up with these "gauges"?

It looks like wax paper was glued on over the stock guages....I would definately try peeling it off and taking some Purple Power or adhesive remover to the original. Cheap and easy to do.

Re: What's up with these "gauges"?

I've taken the cluster out once to change to LED bulbs hoping that would make it a lil' more asthetically pleasing...Lol! I suppose this weekend I'll take it out again.

Looks like somebody wanted some Mugen gauges, but couldn't afford the real thing. So they printed it out themselves, lol.. awesome... why didn't I think of that.. so much horsepowa!
