Hypothetically Speaking..

How hard do you think it would be to make a 'shift plate' like this for a Prelude:

Most lambo's have them and I always thought they were cool..

Thoughts?

Re: Hypothetically Speaking..

hypothetically speaking, it would be pretty hard to do. the plate would probably have to have to be clearanced for the specific shifter you plan to run in the car. for example if one is designed to work in a stock 4th gen prelude with the stock dual bend shifter, it would probably not clear an aftermarket short throw shifter such as the ones from jtc customs(single bend) and pspec.

Yeah I get that, but I was thinking if you base the design off the plastic trim piece under the boot it would be easy to get it the right height and still use the stock mounts. Obviously you would have to already be happy with the shifter you have. I am not trying to make something to sell to people, just kinda been looking at random things I can do make my lude seperate from everyone. :P

Re: Hypothetically Speaking..

I like the idea. It's fresh, especially if you can set it in carbon fiber like in the picture.

pretty good idea. 1badbb6 is taking CNC classes, maybe he can make this happen.

Re: Hypothetically Speaking..

Shouldn't be too hard....

If you have access to a cnc mill it would be a very simple program to write, or if you want a one-off, it could be done with drills and a jigsaw. The hardest part, and the key to making it work, will be accurately measuring the shifters path of travel. After measuring make a cardboard template to check that it'll work before attempting the finished part.

Re: Hypothetically Speaking..

I would assume that provided you at least have access to a basic machine shop, then by taking basic measturements on max side to side motion, and max front to back motion, the rest would be cake. Of course your max front, back and sides are going to be 1,2,5, and R. Then find your center (neutral) and then machine gates for max front and rear for 3rd and 4th. If you really wanted to be a G, you could machine the shift pattern with a slant from 2nd to 3rd and 4th to 5th... kinda like a guide to insanely quick shifting.

Re: Hypothetically Speaking..

I don't think it would be too hard.. I think it would look good but it would take a lot of measuring.

Lilbluelude has his own cnc lathe and I'm sure he would make some if there was enough people interested

Re: Hypothetically Speaking..

i think the only problem would be, and it might be the deciding factor as to wether this is doable or not, is that our shifters do not work like the one pictured. I have givin this some thought and for it to happen, the plate would probably have to be raised up since our shifters fulcrum point is even with the console itself. I'm no expert on this, but really think it would take alot more than just a plate. but who knows?? I could be totally wrong.

Re: Hypothetically Speaking..

meh i dont think it would be THAT hard, as long as you have access to cnc equipment and some basic knowledge in cad/cam design. just cut one out of cardboard, like the path of the shifter and such. and once it looks good on cardboard, then start measuring andf transfering into digital and onto metal via cnc. probably gonna have to make a couple in metal, to adjust and get it just right. but **** once you have the program done, you could easily mass produce and sell em.
