Re: interior door handle $$

If you haven't already bought a whole new one. Mine broke about two years ago and I finally got fed up with it and decided to fix it.

Was looking around and found this on Amazon:
Amazon.com: Dorman 77715 Driver Side Replacement Front Interior Door Handle: Automotive
It's made for an Accord but the handles are exactly the same.

If you've removed your door handle panel before, only one screw behind the circle flap that pops up then slide to the right, then you've seen the plastic handle is held in by a double flared pin just over 1" long.

I bent the flared end back and removed the pins on both the new and the old handle.

Instead of making it difficult and use a pin and try to flare it in the small space you have I just got a #10-24 x 1-1/4" machine screw.

Now this screw will be a tad too big for the panel so it will need to be screwed through both sides but it fits perfect through the plastic handle and works like a charm.

Here's my after picture with the new handle in my panel and the old broken handle sitting with the Accord panel.

Could always go to a dealer if you don't mind being ripped off in exchange for a bnib replacement.

I just drilled it out and put a screw in there. It wings a little bit (barely noticeable), but it works fine.

Re: interior door handle $$

i used pliers to squeeze flat the upper flare until nearly flat as the pin, pushed it out with a hammer and nail. upon re-install used old pin upside down, took a flathead screwdiver and re-flared the now bottom of the pin. so far so good
