5th Gen. Door panel removal

I just bought a 1999 prelude base model and would like to make it look better. I don't want to spend a lot of money, so I thought it would be cool to repaint the inside door handles because the chrome is chipping off anyway. How do I remove the door panel?

Re: 5th Gen. Door panel removal

you dont have to remove the whole door panel to get the handle off. on the int piece that holds the handle there should be a round flap with a space for a flathead screwdriver to wedge in there. pop that thing open and it will expose a phillips head screw. take that screw out. now pull the whole plastic piece back and forth until it pops out of the panel. disconnect the two connectors, one for the door locks and the other for the tweeter. finally take a flathead screwdriver and spin the little plastic bushing that holds the door handle lever bar to the actual door handle so that the bar will pop right out of the door handle.

install is reverse of the above.

Re: 5th Gen. Door panel removal

thanks for the tip. I just tried it and it worked, but i broke the little plastic piece covering the screw...dammit! it doesn't look that bad, but i don't think you can replace those. How do you disconnect the wires for the tweeter and the door lock?

Edit:

nvm I fail

Anyways, disconnect the tweeters by squeezing on the plug and pulling...much like all the other connections...

I busted my little plastic piece too. A tiny dab of hot glue on the back will still let it pop out but it'll stay in place too. Don't use too much though.

exactly, if you cant pinch it and pull the connector off then try using a pair of needle nose but dont squeeze the plug so hard that it breaks.
